Surprised Republicans? Blame the Right Wing echo chamber.
It may surprise the Republicans on this board that I check Drudge every single day (and National Review pretty regularly). Dude drags up some interesting stuff, and frankly, most of it is from legit news sources. It's worthwhile for that purpose - I don't personally view NPR or the NYT as a Left Wing echo chamber (far from it), but I'm hedging against that possibility.
But while Drudge posts some legit stuff, the way he writes his headlines and what he chooses to post offers an incomplete view of reality. If you added the number of polls he posted showing a tie or a Romney lead, they would swamp the very few polls he posted showing a Obama lead, and I'll bet you couldn't find one poll he posted that showed anything more than a 1 pt Obama lead.
The polls he posted are legit, but he never posted the other hundreds of polls showing Romney behind - it's a totally selective view of reality. Nate Silver, Sam Wang, Simon Jackman are not wizards - they just look at every poll. And guess what - it works. If you choose to only listen to what confirms your own worldview, you will lose any sense of perspective on reality.
