Re: 2013 Baseball Schedule
Looks like the SEC is continuing with divisions for Baseball, but I can't confirm that at SECSports.com. It doesn't make sense to do that as the 10-team tournament will include at least the top three teams from each division but won't guarantee an equal split by division.
By adding two teams to the league and keeping the conference schedule at 30 games, we now have THREE SEC teams (A&M, LSU and Arky this season) that we don't play. If those teams are rotated in for alternating seasons (with one team overlapping), Vanderbilt will play those teams every other season and host them once in four years.*
Whereas the old schedule had us playing 15 games in division and 15 games out of division, the new schedule is division heavy (18 games to 12 games like the AL and NL from 1969 to 1976). That imbalanced schedule demands that the SECT take the top 5 teams from each division ... but I don't see it happening because we want the teams with the best records to use the SECT as a springboard to the NCAA Tournament.
Once again: Argument for scrapping divisional play.
*Since we play 4 of the 7 teams from the west, one of the four will be on the schedule for 2 years in a row.
One other programming note: We have the opportunity for two Baseball-Men's Basketball double-headers. PLEASE get someone to work on the schedule to make sure we don't miss any of the action.
SAT., FEB. 16: Texas A&M (MBB) at 5:30 pm / Long Beach State (Baseball)
