Game Thread: Vanderbilt (1-0) vs. Stanford (0-1)

Game Thread: Vanderbilt (1-0) vs. Stanford (0-1)

There is no game thread so I assume most people are watching the game. I will start one to discuss it if anyone is here.

Stanford leads 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning. Wiseman got a leadoff double and Norwood tried to sacrifice and then later grounded out to short to move him to third.

Runner on third, one out. Vandy really needs to tie it here.

Called strike three on a slow slider that hangs in the zone and Ellison stands there and looks at it.

Ro Coleman up with two outs. Stanford trying to work out of the jam.

Coleman hits a bullet down the first base line and the Stanford first baseman makes a one hop snag and ends the inning.

End of 7. Stanford 2, Vanderbilt 1. Our bats have no idea how to hit this change up.

Absolutely no clue what Ellison was doing staring at that. It was like a hittable Eephus pitch. Good lord, dude, there's a runner on third with blazing speed, just put it in play.

Just safety squeeze. How hard is it to bunt a change up? It's easier to bunt a change up than hit it. I don't understand how we're not getting a bunt down right there to tie this game as much as our coach likes to do it.

Coleman got a great swing and the kid just made a play.

Texas becomes the first team to qualify for the College World Series by eliminating Houston.

Stanford now with a leadoff double. They have life and our team looks lifeless. I don't like the feeling here with two innings to go. If they get an insurance run, there looks to be no way we can score a run against this guy much less two.

Good game Stanford was just too much today.  Backs to the wall time either earn your way to Omaha or do what every team before you has done.

Wayne Taylor adds an insurance RBI single and still no one out in the eighth. Stanford leads 3-1.

I want to believe, but I don't think our offense has any life today.

I guess you can say they showed us how to score on a lead off double....hit the dang ball! Ellison I am sorry but that was probably the best strike you will see in your college career. Looking never gets you a run unless it's a walk with the bags full. Tough pitcher but you have got to hit the guy. He has a few losses.

Now Taylor gets up in Conde's grill after a hard tag at second and scores on the next pitch which was smacked off the left field wall.

We are down 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh. I think we're done today. I just really do.

no excuse for striking out with a runner on 3rd and 1 out... i would not have minded a safety squeeze.

Ellison's at bat was just disastrous in all respects.

Fulmer 6 1/3, four earned runs, nine strikeouts.

Just not sharp today even though he got a lot of strikeouts.

Announcers say the Vandy team looks tired today. I agree.

First hit of the day for the Stanford top three is an infield single. First and second, one out and quickly it's 2-0 count.

They are about to blow it open.

Is Harvey in the doghouse? Is he injured (if so, it must have been an off-the-field injury).  Is he even on the team? I know his defensive abilities are subpar, but he could pinch hit or DH.

Re: Game Thread: Vanderbilt (1-0) vs. Stanford (0-1)

Miller induces a double play. Top of the order for Vandy in the top of the eighth.

Stanford 4, Vanderbilt 1 after seven.

Even if we lose, I would like to see the guys play with the same fire as yesterday because so far, Stanford is the team looking like it.

Well, a lead off infield single and a walk on a great at bat.

Conde up with two on, no out. Stanford pitcher is done at 117 pitches.

Re: Game Thread: Vanderbilt (1-0) vs. Stanford (0-1)

A.J. Vanegas in. 3-3 with a 2.38 ERA in 28.3 innings. Seven saves.

Ball one to Conde. First and second no one out. Conde hits a tailor-made double play ball and somehow beats it out at first. First and third one out. Draws an argument from the Stanford manager.

CONDE WAS OUT by a full step. That's a HORRIBLE call against Stanford.

Wiel up. Takes one 94 up and in and almost hits him. 2-0 count.

Vanegas has only allowed two inherited runners to score all year.

Four-pitch walk. Bases loaded for Xavier Turner. One out.

High chopper to short. Terrible swing.

Beats throw to first. Out at second. Wiseman up with two outs and runners on first and third.

4-2.

Re: Game Thread: Vanderbilt (1-0) vs. Stanford (0-1)

Walks Wiseman on four crazy bad pitches. He's overthrowing. Turner earlier did not show any patience.

Here's Norwood with the bases loaded and two outs. This may be the moment of the day right here.

Strike one. Ball one. Close call ball two. Way inside ball three. Hits him on the jersey. Ball four.

4-3 game. Bases loaded with two outs.
