Vanderbilt did this initially and did not like the results, so they stopped it.

For a mid-week game playing a local team, the fans would come in and sit behind the visiting team dugout after the second inning. If you are one of the season ticket holder in that section, you are not happy with the situation. It also tends to make them louder than the home team fans since they are all sitting together. Coach wasn't happy.

Also some other SEC teams have a good road following and this keeps them out of the bowl. Every school has their baseball fans that are a delight to sit around and talk with, but it is the bandwagon fans that show up because their team is playing in town. You knows these fans, they are the ones that go away mumbling that "their baseball team is not very good this year, but we will beat you in football."
