It could go either way. The contracts given to top pitchers seem to get bigger each year. Just look at the deal Greinke just signed in LA. If Price stays healthy, he stands to get a bigger contract down the road than he would have gotten as a UFA this year. Plus, I don't think a lone bad season does much to dent Price's stock given that he has now performed at an ace-level for several years. The only thing I could see derailing his value would be a major injury. That's always the big risk for pitchers on the cusp of a major contract.
Even if he has two subpar years he's looking at a 9 figure deal. With his age, talent, obvious leadership, and work ethic, two seasons like last year make him one of the 10 highest paid players in the history of the game unless he just decides he loves Tampa and gives them a huge home town discount.
