22 Days....3 weeks and 1 day
Of course, to celebrate the coming of spring, in DC we have continuing 20 degree temperatures, a dusting of snow and lots of frozen ponds. At least the sun is shining. Last weekend, when we were in the 50's, I could easily envision taking the field. The crocus were out, the tulips were pushing out small green stalks and little verdant blades of grass were interspersed thoughout the muddy taupe fields which are all signs that it's time to find the horsehide, bats and gloves for spring.
Now, everything's frozen which seems to belay the eagerly anticipated start of spring even as we countdown the days to 3 weeks and less this coming weekend. At least aluminum bats don't have that bone-shaking cold temperature-induced vibration that you get with a wooden bat.
In the service of baseball, I"m all for global warming. A few extra degrees in the early spring would be appreciated (and longer growing seasons world-wide).
