Very moving story- yes, slavery is (and was) a crime against humanity and tragically it took a war of enormous proportions in this country to finally emancipate slaves. I have often wondered why/if we could have outlawed slavery as much of the world had done without the death and devastation of and after The War Between The States. If only we could prevent the many sins against humanity and their consequences.
