CKS during blow out/Moats
Did anyone else notice CKS during a time out when we were getting blown out early?
It looked like he did not say a word for the entire time out.
Was in a tight huddle with the team and just stared at them.
This, oddly enough, seemed to get the attention of our guys.
Moats- Any predicition on how long he stays in the dog house?

I noticed that too. Tom Richardson was doing the yelling/screaming though.

Reminds me of a game at Maplewood many years ago
Gerald Johnson was the coach and the team was not doing well. He called time out, would not allow them to sit, and for the full sixty seconds stared at them with such intensity that his whole body was shaking. Then they went out and played better, much better.
And on a note, as I was typing this, do any who lived in Nashville and went to NIL games remember Chuck? If you do then you were a dedicated fan or student back then.

I saw them play in the "March of Dimes" at Memorial when John Sneed's brother was Maplewood's center. Since Maplewood was the "other side" of NIL, I didn't seem them as much as Overton, Ryan, Glencliff, Antioch, etc. And you never did answer the question - "did you ever coach Stack or Bell?"

'Momma' Johnson was there is the 70's. He was there during the time Wes Elrod coached E. J. Junior and then Preston Brown. I sort of lost track, seemed he went to Brentwood High when it opened. It was entertaining to watch him and Eddie Greer from Hendersonville when Chuck would 'interview' them. Chuck was mentally challenged who somehow seemed to make it to as many basketball games as possible, I took him to several myself. He lived out near Lipscomb and was a fixture at their games. In fact when he died I believe they had some sort of recognition for him.
Answer to Stack or Bell is no. I had several Bells but not the one of whom you're thinking.

But you do remember that Pearl had "Bird" Hayes and the Adkerson twins around the time North had Tim Hyde and Charles Davis was at McGavock and Springer at Glencliff? High school games in Metro were like actual events back then. Entire neighborhoods would go.

Hate that the NIL was disolved
Lots of fun programs lost, North, West, Madison, Litton are four to come to mind.
Can you believe how civil we're being. Need to drag in 'dervan to talk about Peabody Dem.

Re: Reminds me of a game at Maplewood many years ago
I played at Madison (graduated in 1977); Coach Johnson was known to give referees "the stare" for a long time when he was really ticked. Usually we were well behind in the games we played against them so he didn't have to work the refs much. I remember Chuck - He and his buddy Randall were always at the game at Maplewood when we played at their gym. You've probably seen it but there's a great NIL facebook page and a parallel website High School Glory Days. Great memories. And actually I was thinking Chuck was still alive. RE: CKS during blow out/Moats
At Hillsboro, Tommy Frensley would often go to one knee as if begging for a call.

Marvin Jeanette at Hillwood had to be the most mild mannered NIL coach I recall. He did pretty good there considering there was a time that the leading scorers at MBA, BGA, and USN (P.D.S.) were all kids zoned to him that he didn't have. Hillwood made the sub-state both years without them. By the way, add East High to the list of the lost schools even though it is back as a magnet school.

Re: CKS during blow out/Moats
Charlie is STILL hounding them at NCS. His 'ledgend' still earns him every call that could go either way. Did not mean to leave out East High, just got tired of 'membering. I had a good friend who graduated from Madison, went to Trevecca when they went through the coach a year period. Made him into a pretty fair coach himself because he knew four different systems.

Chuck Ross
You're right about Chuck still being alive. He doesn't get around quite as well as he used to, but he is still Lipscomb's #1 fan. When his mother passed away, Lipscomb had a fundraiser called "The Chuck Roast" where different media personalities came to give speeches and share stories about Chuck. The proceeds helped pay Chuck's expenses at Lakeshore. He would call newscasters like Rudy Kalis and ask them what they were going to talk about in the newscast. One time Lipscomb got blown out by Kentucky and the guy on the news said, "Lipscomb fanatic Chuck Ross wanted us to emphasize that Lipscomb was ahead 3-2 after 30 seconds of play, so there you go Chuck." Here is a link to the "Chuck Roast" from the Lipscomb website. It's old, but hopefully it will still work. http://www.lipscomb.edu/health...ter/Item/0/4043

Dude! He must be pushing 80 or older! That's amazing that he's still in coaching. I'm not sure if you knew Gary Smith who coached BGA hoops for about 35 years until not that long ago when he "retired" from coaching. (not sure if they gave him a choice or what) He wasn't nearly as old as Charlie A. must be by now. A real gentleman - class act all the way.

Gary coached me in the 7th grade at Two Rivers Jr. High - his only year there.

Re: CKS during blow out/Moats
Thank you VandyDrew for the correction on Chuck. In my busy time, when I heard about the Chuck Roast it registered (incorrectly) that HE had died.
Did not get around the private schools much until we had to play them Bhoyal.
