The opponents record was 19-1, ranked #4 in the state, so this was not done against small slow unathletic competition.  It was against top competition.

Somewhat related: class of 2014 guard Marquis Johns also impressive with 22 last night.

RE: Darius Thompson explodes!...

I saw an early box score that shows BHS went on a 33-5 run to start the 2nd half. It will be interesting to find out if that was Darius taking over the game or did Siegel collapse for some reason. Or both.

Update: Sea-gull did lose their composure through the game.  Not a shock if you watch their coach sometime.  They had a starter tossed who must now also sit out two games.  The game was filled with technical fouls etc. but one shining star emerged...

quote:
And most of those possessions ran through senior point guard Darius Thompson; Playing in his first game since he committed to Vanderbilt over the weekend, Thompson erupted for a career-high 38 points and had 11 assists. He was 7-of-11 from the 3-point line.

“Darius Thompson is a special player, who is going to raise his game in big games,” Wortman said: “That’s what you saw (Tuesday). You saw what a Mr. Basketball looks like tonight, not only with his play but how he led his team and composed his team.

“It was just a Mr. Basketball like effort;” Thompson, a 6-foot-4 point guard, broke former Blackman standout Isaiah Phillips’ career assist record in the contest - he now has 386.

So Darius played a direct role in a minimum of 60 of Blackman's 86 points...that's pretty amazing, especially considering high school games are only 32 minutes long.

Hopefully he wasn't discouraged by our horrendous lack of student support!

We need to establish...

In every sport, we need to establish an immediate pipeline to the new mega-school that is opening in August between Blackman and Smyrna.  It is gigantic and will take parts of the enrollment from Blackman, Smyrna, and even as far away as LaVergne.

46 million dollars and half-a-million square feet of classrooms.  And the athletic director has been named -  Kevin Dyson.

And I hear from a reliable source that in all of the middle schools in the area - Stew Creek, Rock Springs, Smyrna Middle, etc. - the "Star V" is rampant with very few sightings of the rotten orange "T" anymore.

The new Stewarts Creek High School...opening August of 2013

Until you see this mf'er up close, you can't imagine the enormity of it.

RE: Darius Thompson explodes!...

So was Braxton Blackwell of CPA. He is a HUGE Vandy fan and a damn good basketball player.
He is only a freshman so we won't see him in a Vandy uniform until 2017.

I was out there last night.  It is indeed massive.

Sorry who's Kevin Dyson?

Who is CoachDyson on twitter, he seems very active in recruiting for Vandy but I don't think he's FB coach. Are Kevin Dyson and CoachDyson the same person?

Um... Who is Kevin Dyson you ask?

Do you remember the Music City Miracle?

Kevin Dyson is the former Tennessee Titans wide receiver who just left his job as head football coach at Independence High School.

Talking to one of the CPA assistants the other day, he said Blackwell is going to be better than his teammate, Jalen Lindsey... which is very high praise. Big kid with room to grow and lots of athleticism.

The CPA-Ensworth game tonight should be a great one. There will actually be scalpers outside of the CPA gym.

I think so too.  Love his highlight videos.  Nice range, good handle, excellent court vision.  He really showed a lot in those highlights.  So often those highlights are just a bunch of three points with an occasional dunk thrown in.
