It's OK

It's OK

We'll lose again and some of you can start back with the bashing of the players and the coach.

But for tonight, please give it a rest.

Great win. Time to move forward. They are getting better.

Re: When commentators on television critique players...

and coaches, too, are they also "player and coach bashers?"

Of course not. That's just a Vandymania phenomenon, isn't it?

With the way some of you talk, one would think that the previous statement were the case.

Re: It's OK

I think it's fair to congratulate the team on getting an SEC road win - always a good thing - while being able to realistically mention the FT shooting that just did hit 60% today still has a ways to go and that cutting down on the turnovers would be good. (and didn't mention specific players because anybody who can't recall who missed the most FTs and turned the ball over the most can always pull up a box score and see if they are interested)

But it was a must win game... and this should boost the confidence level going forward after the 2 "snake-bit" endings.

Was that not plain, understandable English?

If you need it in grade school terms, nobody accuses, say, commentators of "bashing players and coaches" when they make suggestions on how players or coaches might improve themselves on the field/the court, etc.

So why is it such a big deal here, I wonder? It is not "bashing" to offer an honest critique of another human being.

It just irks me that some people here are too dumb to grasp this simple concept. Some people need to grow up and understand that criticism is a part of life, that no one is immune to it, and that's just how it is.

Hell, I'm a writer and an artist; I get it constantly, and it hurts. It can be downright demoralizing, but it's also the only way a person grows.

So it's not all bad, trust me. And those who believe it is are just wrong and/or naive.

You're a writer? And an artist? Gosh, sorry to have offended someone like yourself. To punish myself, I'll go back and reread Trout Fishing in America.cool

something idiotic that had no meaning, and imply that I didn't know what I was talking about. That's pointless condescention that makes both of you appear dumb, as though you don't know what you're talking about.

On the contrary, I believe this thread paints a pretty clear picture of the fact that many people at Vandymania don't understand that criticism, when presented properly and in a humane manner, can be invaluable to one's life.

In effect, that's all I was saying. I don't understand what would be so absurd an/or comical about that.

Sorry. I don't think I called out anyone. The only ones responding are the one identifying themselves. cool

but personally I get tired of certain people here (namely you Dee) who constantly whine about any sort of criticism, constructive or otherwise, that is offered by our fanbase.

I come to Vandymania to hear people's true opinions concerning Vanderbilt athletics. I praised the team after their victory, as did most other people here.

But that's not all I want to see. If anyone comes here to witness an 100% all praise forum, then what's the point? Just listen to the CKS show, where mostly people loft continuous softballs and say nothing worth hearing really, which is why I stopped listening to it quite a while ago.

Does this make any sense? Are you still confused? I wouldn't be surprised.

And the one caller this season who dared to ask about a specific blueprint in place to build this team/program into an SEC contender with the ability to go far in the dance was treated to a wandering runaround of an answer that included talk about Fes playing for the Golden State Warriors, included talk about how "we can't compete with schools like UNC for top talent" etc.  It was some of the most impressive tap-dancing since Bill "Bojangles" Robinson used to do those old movies with Shirley Temple.  But no specific plan in place that I could determine from the (non-) "answer."

But for me, I am waiting for the end of the season before deciding exactly where I stand on the state of the program.  I will say this though - ...if we don't top the previous CKS low-water mark of 11 wins, that may not be very impressive.

NOTE: This post does not address or "take sides" in the topic of retaining or not retaining the current coaching staff of any sport at Vanderbilt University or at any other school or entity, collegiate or professional.

Have you read your own posts in this thread? Because calling other people "dumb", & "stupid" & "lame" & "idiotic" does not qualify IN ANYBODY'S BOOK as properly and humanely-presented invaluable criticism. Those are contraventions of simple courtesy (not to mention forum rules).

Hey Bek

Personally, I thought my Richard Brautigan dig was humorous and hardly malicious. I didn't think it would be used to identify me as a moron

For someone who uses his quote on his page, I thought you might appreciate the humor. Instead, all it did was bring out your good side. You know, the prickly one.

As they say in Disneyland, I hope you have a magical day.

Re: Ok, let's settle it. Everybody here is a "player

basher" because everyone here has criticized players and coaches at some point in time-- more than once.

Now, so what? That's the real question.

In short, I don't think anybody here who has ever accused anyone of bashing players and coaches have been immune to "player bashing" themselves.

Thus, it's hypocritical bs to accuse people of that as you tend to do far too often.

Openly be a smart aleck and belittle what someone likes, and then say "I was only joking."

I think I've seen that particular tactic employed elsewhere once or twice in my travels through the years.

That's nothing! You should see him in Stormy Weather. Even as an old man, he really hoofs it in that movie. But he still gets upstaged at the end when the Nicholas Brothers perform the greatest dance scene ever filmed (and it's not even close). Talk about athleticism--we could use a couple of guys like that. Don't believe me? Check it out here (especially when they hit the staircases, beginning around 3'35"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8yGGtVKrD8
