Actual Basketball Question

Actual Basketball Question

I noticed that when KJ and KF are in the game, it appears that KJ plays more at the point and KF is at the wing.  A lot of times, in the offense we run, SM or JH will give a high ball screen to KJ and KJ will attack causing the defense to collapse.  When the play works well, KJ gets a an easy shot or the wing gets a good look at a 3.

KJ is our best player and the also the best PG on the team, but would be better off with KF running the point and KJ moving to the two when both are in the game?  KF is a decent-to-good PG, but, a below average wing player primarily because he is not a great shooter. KF has the ability to create off the dribble and is distributes relatively well, but seems out of position on the wing.

So the question is, are we better off moving KF to the point when both KJ and KF are in?  Let KF create and distribute to KJ at the wing where he has shown the ability to hit the three.  I think the biggest reason preventing this from happening is that we want to keep the ball in out best player's hands as much as possible.

I agree.  I think KJ is more of a "Scoring" guard then a true point guard, especially on this team.  I think if he had scorers around him, he would be an exceptional point guard and would have many more assists.

Re: Actual Basketball Question

The offense runs through K Johnson. He had 8 assists against Ole Miss. When he is in game , he will always have the ball. KF is a good back up, with Parker playing better , Fuller minutes will go down.
Teams will try to stop Johnson but he is good enough to break defenses down and get it to the open player.
The team is improving with new line up. We will win some games as they gain more experience.

Fuller war recruited to play point guard but is a turnover machine. The less he handles the ball the better.

You are right ... except for the fact that KJ is so much better than KF that this would be disastrous.

Re: Actual Basketball Question

I bet that was the original plan by Stallings, to have Fuller at PG. Johnson has to do more than any one PG that Stallings has had since he's been here. I think his idea of a PG involves not much more than QBing and letting your scorers make plays and score only when you have an easy opportunity. Unfortunately he doesn't have that luxury now because Fuller is not good enough of a ball handler to be point.

Re: Actual Basketball Question

KJ would have a lot more assists if we had more scorers/ better shooters/ better post play. I understand the point though about having him on the wing with KF- the problem is turnovers and KF will turn it over more than KJ- it actually might be better for an end of the half or game type scenario
