Vanderbilt Finally Outpriced Loyal fans
I love Vanderbilt- Always will. I have worked here for over a decade and bought my faculty staff tickets even in all the lean years. Never once ever sold them to other teams like others do. Now to repay our loyality - The ticket prices for faculty staff have gone from $161 per seat to $261 per seat for a total of $522 from $322. That is a one year increase of $200. NICE WAY TO TREAT THE PEOPLE YOU ARE ASKING TO SUPPORT YOU. Let's face it - Vanderbilt underpays most of the staff and what made it worthwhile to work here was the beneifts which included althletic tickets. BUT we get the "support" your team and be "part" of the team and what support or part of the team raised the tickets ( ie "benefit) $200 in a year! They will give you the "talk" that we are below SEC ticket rates but even those schools ( except Alabama) are not filling their stadiums because of the pricing. As much as I would love to continue to come to game and support the team and my school...I simply can't afford it anymore. I can not justify spending that much money. Remember - we have had 2 good years and I am gratful but I also remember the Hard years and The "fisco" of the "PSL" that happened with Hoolahan. It killed the fan base and I hope this does not do it again.

The price of a competitive SEC football program. The money to buy new weight rooms and training facilities, an indoor practice field, major stadium renovations, and pay the head coach $3.5 mil has to come from somewhere.
If you're trying to justify the increased ticket price, think of it as price per wins and it won't hurt as bad. Also note that you're paying for 7 home games this year as opposed to 6 last year.

Re: Vanderbilt Finally Outpriced Loyal fans
A few things here regarding the ticket price increase (I am not going to get into the topic of how adequately or inadequately the University compensates its employees):
1. If Vanderbilt can sell out all of its home games at higher prices, then you cannot blame them for raising the prices because it will yield more revenue. If that excludes a set of fans because the cost is too burdensome, then it is unfortunate but not uncommon with an improving sports team (pro or college). Hell, you should see what has happened to the NY Knicks ticket prices this season vs. the past couple of years, now that they are #2 in the Eastern Conference ($$$$).
2. A lot of fans at other SEC schools, who cannot afford game tickets, still tailgate and support the team. They buy memorabilia, watch games on ESPN, and show up to the pre-game festivities. All of this has a positive impact on the program; it's not all about attending the game.
3. If #1 happens, then rest assured stadium expansion plans will begin, which will increase seating capacity and create lower-cost ticket options. Right now we only have a lower bowl vis-a-vis other SEC stadiums, but with seats at higher elevations or the open endzone, lower-cost tickets will become available again.
4. If #1 doesn't happen, then stay patient because ticket prices will be discounted either directly by Vanderbilt, or more likely, in the secondary market.
Don't make Vanderbilt out as the bad guy here. All succeeding organizations go through growing pains, and you've touched on one, but that doesn't make them at fault.

Not so fast my friend.........
Evidently, some new IRS regulations/interpretations have gone into effect that have forced VU to change the Faculty/Staff discount....The same thing happened with basketball season tickets earlier....That Faculty/Staff discount was a sweetheart deal, but as I mentioned in a previous thread, we are ALL going to be asked to "invest", be "ALL IN" this football program going forward.....Everyone has to decide what is in their family`s best financial interest.. Believe me, it`s a sacrifice for me and my family to have 4 football and 2 basketball season tickets plus an NCC donation....... I will contend that even with the price increases, Vanderbilt football is now a better value than it ever has been.....We have been clamoring for this type of commitment for ages. Let`s not jump ship just when we have tailwinds in our sails....#Anchor Down

We are a top 25 football team and we play in the SEC. Sorry, but that combination is not a good one for thrifty fans.

Re: Vanderbilt Finally Outpriced Loyal fans
Tickets were probably the cheapest in the SEC forever, and we had fewer people. The results were in line with the investment.

If it is such a big deal, see if you can get UT tickets cheaper. Says the guy(?) who admitted in another thread that he MAY make it to two games a year. To the OP: thanks for your loyalty to the 'Dores.

Good
That's the price of success. Of course, things could revert to SOV with a bad season or two, but you don't build a rocket ship by selling cheap tickets.

Re: Vanderbilt Finally Outpriced Loyal fans
I submit that we need to retire the "go root for another team" and "you're not really a Vandy fan" responses that are so common on this board these days. We all root for the same team! Why can't we disagree without being rude?

Well all of you pay my share I give Vandy enough out of my check as it is and it is obvious that all of you make a living wage. Which I have had to scrape to pay for the tickets all these years. Me that $500 dollars can go to something more useful like gas, house payment and food. After all the games are always on TV. Good luck to be honest I am relieve that I can not have to worry about paying for them . I can get a Ticket for $10 and go to see Hockey.

RE: Vanderbilt Finally Outpriced Loyal fans
Where were you guys when basketball prices and NCC requirements went up this year? Apparently it is okay for basketball, but not for football? BTW basketball will have a hard time selling their inflated tickets next year after this year's dismal performance.

Your wrath might be misdirected as receiving a reduced price season ticket is probably considered a taxable-benefit. My guess is that the IRS has a regulation somewhere that is recently being enforced that states that the the difference between what the employee pays and maybe 80% the face value of the season ticket package purchased is taxable income. Administrating these types of benefits can be a royal pain and the only option was to raise the price. Maybe CDore78 has some insight into this if my guess is true, if some of you posters don't drive him totally off of this site.

Re: Not so fast my friend.........
My understanding is that this is correct. Due to IRS regulations, Faculty/Staff now get a much smaller discount. The increase doesn't necessarily reflect a large change in the face value of the tickets. Re: Not so fast my friend.........
I think the change in the percentage of the Faculty/Staff discount is a big part of it, but from the POV of the pocketbook of the person buying the tickets, it doesn't really matter. Add the actual increase in price and a possible increase in the NCC donation, and it can be a healthy chunk. Personally, I don't think it was a good idea to put together an invoice for the prices of the season tickets plus the NCC donation. I saw mine and just about had a heart attack, although I'm not sure that it included the faculty/staff discount. Even if did, it all adds up to a pretty big increase. I'll definitely have to cut back somewhere. FFisher wrote:
