Now, now
Coach Freeze just tweeted: "If you have facts about a violation, send it to compliance@olemiss.edu. If not, please do not slander these young men or insult their family"
Nope, nothing to see here. Speculation is verboten.

Re: Rebel bears
Vandy fans need to tread carefully here. Just remember, UT fans and other SEC fans say the same thing about us...."Vandy getting a Top 20 recruiting class, they must be cheating" Freeze deserves the benefit of the doubt.

So true.....
Any program that begins to show signs of rising to the elite level is going to be resented by the powers-that-be, and they will do everything they can to prevent it. And that is going to apply to Vanderbilt as much as it does to Ole Miss.
Remember when Boise State got their first placement in a BCS bowl? The hatred from the "elite" was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
It is not in the best interest of any program that has not been among the elite to attack those who have also not been among the elite but are beginning to get there.
Today it may be us, but tomorrow it could be you.

Re: Rebel bears
The Ole Miss recruiting success is one of two things.
(1) Coach Hugh Freeze and his staff and working their tails off and doing a fantastic sales job on recruits. Give them credit.
(2) The Rebels are cheating their tail ends off. Or possibly doing some extremely off the wall things like the rumor on Laremy Tunsil (also giving "academic" scholarships to his brother and girlfriend).
Personally I hope that it is choice number one. I don't have anything against Ole Miss and it would be nice to have some new blood at the top of the SEC West.
If it's choice number two it's going to be a huge black eye for the SEC and to a lesser extent, college football. It's going to make a lot of people angry if it turns out that they lost elite recruits to Ole Miss and they were cheating big time. Not to mention screwing up player's careers.

Re: So true.....
Nobody seems to have "hatred" for Stanford....maybe because they did it above board and the right way. It took them a few years, and didn't suddenly come up with a top 5 class. Here's hoping for SMU type probation for the Shoney Bears. --------------------------------------------- --- NJReb wrote:

Re: So true.....
Personally, I have no animosity toward Ole Miss. So why should we hope they get a death penalty from the NCAA? Not exactly great PR for the SEC and perfect cannon fodder for Big 10 and other SEC haters. I agree we do things right and as a huge Stanford fan, I have said on here for while, they need to be our role models. My one point is, Freeze deserves the benefit of the doubt. And if the only evidence is from a Miss State blog, paint me skeptical. As Ronald Reagan used to say to Gorbachev, "trust, but verify."SumnerCountyDore wrote: Nobody seems to have "hatred" for Stanford....maybe because they did it above board and the right way. Re: So true.....
Oh, I could care less what other conferences think of the SEC. They already think it's a cesspool because they can't keep up. I only half jokingly wish bad upon OM...just always am skeptical of a non-traditional power all of the sudden turning up a top 5 class. We'll eventually see, but something stinks in Oxford. --------------------------------------------- --- AnchorDown01 wrote: Personally, I have no animosity toward Ole Miss. Re: Rebel bears
It really just pisses me off that lance goulbourne got suspended last year because one of the team trainers went and purchased some sort of I.D. For lance AFTER lance gave him the money for it. Then you see this kind of stuff that kids post on Twitter, I mean COME ON MAN! This kid must be a dumb*** to think he can put stuff on the computer without anything coming of it. But in all honesty, nothing will come of it. Just like pictures of Julio Jones his last year at bama making the celebrity walk into the stadium on game day wearing a different designer suit EVERY WEEK. It's very well known that Trent Richardson grew up in a rather poor community and his family wasn't too well off, but during his time at Alabama, Trent had 2 vehicles that were absolutely loaded for a college kid with no job and without wealthy parents. This stuff is so obvious, that it gets overlooked, yet somehow one of your buddies can take you and more buddies on a trip and pay for it and you get an 8 game suspension (Festus Ezeli last year). I don't understand it at all. --------------------------------------------- --- GReaTDore wrote: AnchorDown01 wrote: Vandy fans need to tread carefully here. Freeze deserves the benefit of the doubt. When there are Vanderbilt recruits associated with images like these for Ole Miss, they may have something.

Re: So true.....
Freeze is very charismatic and a great salesmen, now if he is on the up and up, that remains to be seen. But I can see him selling himself to big time recruits. Remember, Ole Miss had a really good season, better then the 6-6 final tally. They should have beat Texas A&M( Johnny Football had to lead the Aggies in the last minute to score to win) and Ole Miss should have beat LSU (I watched that game also, they beat LSU in every category but the final score). Jim Mora is having a great recruiting class, ranked No. 9 at Rivals. When was the last time UCLA was anything other then a mediocre PAC-12 program in football? You have to go back to the days of Troy Aiken. Is UCLA cheating their butts off also? Maybe or could be Mora is a great salesmen. Re: So true.....
I get what you're saying but here are a couple of points.
1) Mora is a bad example. He has NFL pedigree and kids love playing for a coach with lots of NFL contacts. Freeze's best prior position was HC at Arkansas State.
2) Even though Vandy has been down for a long time, top 15 to 25 classes are not that much of a stretch for an SEC program. We were usually between 50 and 75 pre-Franklin. In SEC rankings we have gone from typically dead last to around 8th. Not too much of a jump in reality. If Ole Miss was pulling this sort of class, nobody would bat an eye. People would consider it a good story and solid achievement. However, when a perennial doormat starts pulling Top 40 kids over UGA, Bama, UF, and LSU...people who follow recruiting start taking notice. Then they start digging. Often they find a lot of "smoke". If there is something going on at Ole Miss, then it will all come out soon because recruiting is garnering more media coverage each year. Social media and reporters make it nearly impossible to hide things.
And for the record, if CJF was pulling a Top 5 class including the 3 highest rated players in the country, I'd be just as suspicious...though I probably wouldn't draw attention to it.

Re: So true.....
Certainly doesn't hurt UCLA that the program down the street is in the trouble they're in. Mora has a heck of a pedigree as mentioned, but if a kid wants to play in LA, he doesn't have a lot of opportunity with the limited scholly numbers at SC. Add in the fact that they have a dbag as coach and it seems like a perfect storm for Mora. --------------------------------------------- --- AnchorDown01 wrote: Freeze is very charismatic and a great salesmen, now if he is on the up and up, that remains to be seen.
