Re: It's time to legitimately fear Ole Miss

Earlier today, I was wondering, "Will vandy & Ole Miss ever play for the SEC Championship?"

What do you think?

No, because they'll be on probation.  Coach O brought some great classes there, too (though not this good)

Maybe I'll fear them when they don't lose to us most every year.

Ole Miss is putting together a ridiculously good class. The SEC West could be better than entire conferences in a year or two.

Not surprising since Ole Miss is one of the SEC's top traditional powerhouses.  Just ask their fans.

I hear all of you guys loud and clear, but it is impossible to ignore or shrug off or explain away.

Freeze and Ole Miss are on the verge of being a tour de force.

I really hope they are cheating, and it all blows up.

Isn't this what other folks say about VU and CJF?

Maybe. But I have not seen any pictures of VU recruits waving hundies while hanging out with the boys and the ladies lol.

We'll see how many of these kids stick around.

I'm not going to fear any team that Vanderbilt has beaten pretty consistently for a while.  Could this class really turn them around?  Yes.  Could this class end up like Kiffin's vaunted class of UT (Bryce Brown, NuKeese Richardson, Janzen Jackson). Yes.

Maybe we should take them more seriously

but that's different than "fearing" them.

You must have seen Treadwell's Twitter pic too....wow.  That's what is going on at Ole Miss.  2 years max, and they'll be hit with some sanctions and probation.

I find this very interesting:

  • Elijah Daniel, DE:  #49 player overall, #6 best defensive end, but grades are a concern.

Seriously?  Since when did Ole Miss ever have a problem getting a kid into school because of his grades?  They let a kid in a few years ago who couldn't even read!

On another note, I still don't know how in the hell they got all of those RB commitments, and I really don't think they'll all sign on NSD.  Hopefully we can convince one or two of them to switch over to us.  It seems like they can spare one or two or six...

Well said. If they have a big class they will need to be treated with more respect. However, it still is yet to be seen if it will make a big difference on the field.

Read bonden's post and quote please. The full statement is: Maybe we should take them more seriously but that is different than fearing them.

Sure.  I read it.  It just doesn't make any sense to me conceptually. Should we on Vandymania treat them with more respect?  Like in making predictions?  Or like not making fun of the fact that we always beat them?

Should our players should treat them with respect?  I doubt that's an issue.

I don't mean to make a huge deal out of this, I just think the concept of respect in this context is not apt.

I don't know the actual statistics, but anecdotally, I have had some students in my classes that I teach locally who "washed out" of Ole Miss. Apparently it is fairly easy to get into Ole Miss. However, many can't stay in academically. This is what I see as a distinct advantage that VU has over many of the schools. We hold onto and graduate a high percentage of our players. We don't have to have the top recruiting classes to end up with the best team. If we recruit toward the top, retain our players, and coach them up like I know CJF's staff is able, we can compete with anyone.
