Must-do-NOTs for newbies...

Please let me know what a new poster should NOT do...

There is no posting for this, yet.  Please disregard my post and have someone else suggest it.

Thank you...I'm trying to learn.

Rule #1: ignore anyone who suggest you post or not post in a certain way.
Rule #2: be nice

Cool...I might like it here, then.

I seems that a lot of people are not very nice here, though.  So many seem to presume that someone means something other than what they are directly stating...

A lot of posters are old and crotchety - it comes with the territory as a Vandy fan, so don't let that sway you. Welcome!

Pay no attention to the maniacal, usually negative rantings of SumnerCountyDore. He has no filter most of the time and usually posts things he regrets when he goes back and reads them. Oh yeah, this board is a little different than most and you will be called on spelling and grammar, unless you are posting to a UTjr fan...we allow you to dumb it down a little in that instance. (Sorry Max and SOG, have to get digs in where I can). Most of all, just have fun and Anchor Down! Welcome.

I'm pretty new too, and the only thing I've noticed (and this isn't specific to VM) is that if you post something that seems like it is insider info, link to where you found it. Especially with recruiting news, it can be an understandably touchy subject.

Anything behind a paywall shouldn't be posted here at all, but I think that goes without saying.

You have been given some sage advice from the "captain" and "chief" status posters! Many have suggested a mandatory 24 hour cool down period after a loss.....but, no one seems to comply. Welcome and have fun!

Don't discuss politics in here even if it relates to sports. This crowd really gets sideways with politics! wink

Crotchety, old, humph!   Blatant ageism.   Brat!

Oh, you shouldn't take things too personally or call other posters names.

Welcome.

Don't post about imaginary girlfriends, dead or alive. There is another school that features that

#1 - you can't say we need a new coach or coaching staff no matter how horrifically bad they are doing... it's against forum rules

#2 - in case people think you are violating rule #1 even when you are obviously not, add a disclaimer to your posts.... something like...

"NOTE: This post does not address or "take sides" in the topic of retaining or not retaining the current coaching staff of any sport at Vanderbilt University or at any other school or entity, collegiate or professional."

Re: Must-do-NOTs for newbies...

These are all good tips. I have another one:

Don't question the Vanderbilt fanhood of people with lots of posts (other than Gryllus, who is a UT fan but knowledgeable and fairly reasonable when you understand he sees things through an orange lens).  As an example, I once saw somebody with just a handful of posts question DeefromAtlanta's status as a Vandy fan after Dee did one of those anti-jinx posts (a superstitious tradition before some big games) and I probably went after that new guy too hard.  All a misunderstanding really but I just thought that violated an unwritten rule.  I've never met Dee, probably never will, (and Dee doesn't need my help at all) but I can say with certainty that Dee is as big a Vandy fan as there is and that infuriated me.

As ridiculous as I think certain posters have been on the basketball board lately, I don't doubt their devotion to the Commodore cause.

Anyway, my two cents.  Welcome.

Live in the now bhhoyal. I assume your rules were for the bygone era before we hired our coach-for-life James Franklin (at least I hope).

Don't ever post smack about a game or a recruit until the game or NSD is over.  It will come back to bite you every time.

old and crotchety?

I resemble that remark.  biggrin  But what I appears to me is the greatest belligerence is from some who appear to be younger, I would estimate late 30's into the 20's.  But who knows.

We all know of posters who have disappeared.  I met one who I shall not name about the time he abandoned the board due to personal hostility but on meeting him he was a really good and decent guy.

I appreciate the different opinions on the site.  I don't like it when it degenerates into name calling, as happens from time to time.

Never, even if joking, utter the three letters of death! If you don't know what they are I envy you.

Stay away from the basketball page: these are times for veterans to fight and the 2 camps have lots of fire (stay clear)

But, alas, I have a tremendous amount of money, personally. As a very, very successful graduate that has lots, and lots, and lots of money...I formally apologize for my prior transgressions.

If Don chooses to assassinate me during the down-time, I will re-assert my respect for Abe Lincoln...and his cause.
