Predicting an atb orgasm any minute now...Conn Shooting.
Shooting in Conn, very sad. 27 dead...Kindergarteners.
More than one shooter? This is very sad.
Whenever you get mad as hell about it all, grab your rifle and head outside. If you are the only one there...it's not time yet.

Two gunmen involved. One is dead. The other is at-large. There is also at least one group of students, no word on numbers, that is still unaccounted for.

Obviously, making it so that schools are "gun free zones" is not having the desired effect.
And, just an aside: Lubbock PD officers have been to a training seminar where they have been warned to be prepared for terrorist attacks on schools - similar to what happened in Russia several years ago. Granted, we don't yet have a profile of the shooter(s) in this incident - but I am curiously awaiting details regarding profile, possible motive, etc.

What point was going to be proven by shooting small unarmed children? Whose buttons were they trying to push? Were they just sick? Just heard on the news one of the gunman's mothers was found dead at the school, she was a teacher.

If outlawing guns would really work, I think anyone would be crazy to not be in favor of it. But it won't because guns would still be obtained just like drugs are now.
I'm a firm believer that we need stronger deterrents for crime prevention. But in cases like this it just doesn't matter. These sick, evil people have already given up and are ready to die so nothing is going to deter them and prevent this.
As we seem to not have an answer, the only thing I know to do is to fight fire with fire. If more people are armed, at least there's a chance of minimizing the damage when something like this happens. Staff armed guards everywhere (jobs creation) and offer tax breaks for people to get concealed handgun licenses. We probably also need to allow CHL holders access everywhere.

That's true: The genie is already out of the bottle. But in the face of tragedies like these, it's very hard for gun owners (like me) to defend the ready availability of firearms. This is horrific.

Parents, would you feel more comfortable dropping your kids off at a school with two armed guys wearing vests, holding AR-15's -and- an unspecified number of teachers and staff carrying concealed? The naked alternative is what we have now which is no protection.

Parents, would you feel more comfortable dropping your kids off at a school with two armed guys wearing vests, holding AR-15's -and- an unspecified number of teachers and staff carrying concealed?
The naked alternative is what we have now which is no protection. I'd like my children to go to a school where there are sniper towers. No sh!t. |

I don't know. It's possible that banning guns could make it easier for the wrong people to get them because suddenly it would be a big business to sell them. The cartels would love it.

Is outlawing guns the only solution you see? It must be since it's introduced into every discussion about gun violence. Why is that? Honestly I don't have a solution and apparently nobody does. I'm just throwing around ideas because tragedies like this upset me. Outlawing guns seems to be the common reaction so I was just proposing alternatives because I don't believe it would work. What are your solutions?

This is horrific. +1 2-9MM guns wearing a bullet proof vest. Not your typical attire. Apparently one suggestion in this thread is to hire armed security guards at all public schools. This wacko walks in, and shoots the security guards first. Or should teachers arm themselves around children. Where you hope some teacher doesn't flip out on the job. Any bets it will come out this wacko had mental problems? Or that he had a small arsenal at home - recently purchased? It's unclear how to get this genie back into the bottle.
