Tony Brown - Beaumont Ozen

Tony Brown - Beaumont Ozen

Any chance we get this kid? He's a CB and listed as #2 prospect in the state of Texas for 2014. His dad (Tony Brown) played football for Tech and his mom (Tammy Walker-Brown) played for the Lady Raiders.

What's the scoop?

Would be amazing to sell him on that. Hopefully Kliff will also be able to show him that he's building something great here.

We'd have to beat out the who's who of college football powerhouses, but I'm sure Kliff won't back down from a challenge.

Doing a little more research: Dad is a high school football coach (DC at Ozen). Mom is HC for the Ozen girls basketball team (apparently pretty successful). Sister (class of 2013) is track star.

I think we could employ mom & dad and give sister a track scholarship biggrin

Sister has already narrowed her list to LSU, A&M, and Texas. I'm assuming Tech offered but don't know for sure.

His uncle is former Tech and NFL football player Sammy Walker.

If we can't land this kid......banghead

Going to be tough, A&M fans think they have the inside track because his sister his looking there. This kid could eventually be the stand out corner that we have been needing for a longggggg time.

Has there ever been a recruit with this much Texas Tech blood in them not named Scovell?

Agree, it's frustrating when I watch kids like Joeckel, and Jonathan Gray go to other schools when they could of started their legacies here at Tech.

Amaro, walker twins, tilman, Daniels....kwnny Williams might have had a tech tie. But we have done very poorly with legacies for the most part.

Joekel wanted to come to Tech as a package deal with his brother who was an average QB>
Turns out to be a bad decision. The brother is not a QB- but could have played T End.

Agreed that we have time, but I think the frustration is that we have not been successful in getting legacy guys to come here. It should be an advantage for us, but it seems we can't make use of the advantage. I don't know if it was the old regime, or the older regime that couldn't do it, but either way, we haven't been successful.

Just give it time though, he is a immediate starter for almost any school, and we want him to commit if its today or on NSD.

Re: Tony Brown - Beaumont Ozen

Imo, there is a lot more pride in the school since Big12 and even more with all that has come with it. Unfortunately, a lot of folks leave and never come back- haven't seen how much things have changed. I don't think leach reached out to our alums in general- tubs at least went out and visited. I think kliff and having so many alums on staff will be a big plus in this regard.

My opinion is that the moms and dads, aunts and uncles still look at Tech thru 80's glasses. They somehow don't realize the improvements made in facilities, campus, housing, etc. THAT is on the ones selling Tech to the younger generation.

Sorry Zebbie, didn't read your response before I posted. We both have similar opinions on this issue.

Re: Tony Brown - Beaumont Ozen

We'll have to wait and see but I would think that selling legacy players to the school will be much easier and more successful now that the majority of the coaching staff graduated from the school they are selling.  Also, our track program is substantially better than when Brown's mom and dad went to school at TT so maybe we can get the sister on board as well.
