2015 Basketball Recruiting

2015 Basketball Recruiting

Although us Temple Basketball fans have experience plenty heart-ache during the 2014 basketball recruiting cycle the recruiting thread itself seemed to be fairly popular with over 600 post and 18,000 views and counting. So here is the 2015 edition with a list of basketball prospects with reported interest from our Temple Owls. Just like for the 2014 recruiting thread I am not 100% sure if Temple has serious interest in all the young men listed (or vice versa) but nevertheless interest from either party has reported.

Can the moderators please pin this thread as was done for the 2014 recruiting thread. And please do not unpin the 2014 thread until after the end of the final signing period in April.
Thank You.

Re: 2015 Basketball Recruiting

I'll nip this in the bud.

A few high 4, low 5 star players will have us on their final list but elect to go to a power conference school. These players will say how they loved Temple and Dunphy so, naturally, they couldn't sign Temple's LOI. Dunphy will be trashed for not being able to "close the deal." There will be calls for Dunphy to hire a "killer" recruiter and to fire everyone else on the staff.

Then, there will be posts that we never offered these guys everyone else in the country wanted even though Dunphy is reported to be at all of their big high school games. We'll end up signing one or two high 3, low 4 star players. Dunphy will be praised for only signing "high character guys" and not bringing in a bunch of "me" guys. Our offering those high 4, low 5 star guys will be labeled as Dunphy's genius ploy to get teams to stay away from the lower ranked players that we REALLY want.

Of course, if an American team or two makes the Final Four and makes the whole conference more attractive, the story could change.

Thanks for the additional names R3. I left those guys off because:
I recently read an article on Trier & his recruitment and he did not mention Temple, so I omitted him from the list. But I guess in order to get a true dipiction of TU's recruiting he should be added. If you guys want I will add him but IMO he isn't interested and niether is the staff.

Only one recruiting site list Miller and I'm trying to assemble a list of legit recruits. If an article pops up with him link to Temple I will be sure to add him.

On the fence with Stephens. Like Forbes he is distined for the Ivy's and like Miller he is only listed by one recruiting site with interest from Temple.

Why would you say so PH4L?
Fran & Company have been striking out locally since the Wyatt & RHJ class in 2008. Just curious.

If a Philly staff can't sell home games against

UConn
Cincinnati
Memphis
Louisville

to Philly kids... something is seriously wrong...

The unofficial visits should be very persuasive this year... If you can't close some of these kids immediately after they see these teams on Broad Street, there is a REAL problem...

The arena, practice facilities, video room, training room, etc... are first rate...

The tradition is strong... TU has averaged 26-27 wins per season for the past 5-6 years...

I just believe local kids will look at these things and the current roster and see OPPORTUNITIES to impact a strong BCS program immediately...

Re: 2015 Basketball Recruiting

I am worried that Philly kids won't want to stay in Philly. There seems to be no one on the staff that has any affiliation with Philly's local coaches and mentors, and I am not seeing much outside help. This program was built on Philly kids! We need to get back to it. We need some kids who can help change this program around and start this new league era off right.

Philly inner city kids simply want to get away... We have to focus on the NY, NJ, Maryland kids that also want to get away, yet want to be close to home

Some Philly kids wanted to stay home...

DJ Newbill 20 ppg, 7 rpg and 3 apg in the Big 10... wanted to stay in Philly...

Philly schools didn't recruit him...

There are other similar cases...

Re: 2015 Basketball Recruiting

Newbill's recruiting process was odd to say the least. Garnered interest from smaller schools like La Salle and Rider. Had an offer to Marquette, committed to it, only to have Marquette rescind their offer like jerks to allow them to free up a scholarship for an incoming transfer. Ended up at Penn State. To my knowledge, and I'm not certain, I don't think their was an offer from Temple for the Strawberry Mansion product. And if that is the case that is kind of hard to believe.

Kid really liked Temple... SJU also passed on Newbill... only Drexel REALLY recruited Newbill among local schools... West Virginia and Marquette offered...

He spent a year at Southern Mississippi after Buzz phuqued him over and then transferred home...

Jabril Trawick will be a three years starter at Georgetown and only Drexel REALLY recruited him among local schools....
