Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
If the fans don't show up for this one, a shot at a share of the big five title, a pivotal A10 match up late in the season, and for all intents and purposes, an Ncaa tournament play in game, they never will. I will be ashamed if the Owl faithful don't come out for this one.

I've been ashamed all year. Love to see both the students and alumni surprise and delight for a change.

Sadly it's going to be close. This is a huge game obviously. Hopefully our students and alumni coe out for this one. It's been a crappy home schedule, but this is a good one.

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
This is the best La Salle has been in a long long time so of course they will bring in lots of people and students. I think we will still have more fans but the noise and support level will depend on who is playing well. I know in the record books if we win we will share the Big 5 title with them but in my mind the tie breaker goes to who won in the face to face game. Go Owls. Beat La Salle.

Maybe some of our posters can carry a questionaire on Broadt St and see how many LaSalle fans would be willing to support and attend a Temple campus football stadium ????

These posts are getting old. A new stadium is not about the old fan base who has no reason to support Temple because Temple sucked while they were in school and for years after. They have already given up on Temple and probably don't care. I don't blame them. To those that have stuck with Temple, kudos. It's about changing the culture and developing a fan base from current and future students. It's also part of Temple's transition from a commuter school to a fully functioning campus. Have some vision.

There was an awful lot of posters who fled here when the price for their opinion became $9 a month. Vision.... K

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
Look, some/most folks don't need to be in the know for everything going on with TU athletics so i really don't know where you're going with attempt to label folks that don't "pony up" 9 bucks a month and truth be told, like Tailgate said, the constant mentioning of the on campus stadium has gotten old. We get it. You're not in favor of the project, but move on with it.
We have had this discussion over and over and over again. TU has a lackluster fanbase because of its history as a commuter school. You want to place blame on who's at fault? Blame Liacouras, blame the TU BOT of old, blame people who felt catering to commuters was the original way to go with the school's footprint.
The problem is that we see it today. Apathy in its finest form. Commuter students do not develop the allegiance and loyalty that you see at other universities. They came on campus, went to class and went home..........or off to work. They never developed any fond memories of their alma mater. It's too bad we didn't become more of a campus sooner because the apathy wouldn't be nearly as bad as it is.
But that's where we are with it today and it's the universities job to now see that these new students, the 12.5K that now live on or very close to campus have a college life and career that so many others before them did not experience.
As they leave and become alums, you hope they develop the loyalty and fondness for their alma mater as you and I did.

K I'm guessing most of the posters are not current or future Temple students so this post really doesn't address anything I wrote. And what on earth does paying to use a website have to do with any of this? You've made lots of bad comparisons but this is probably your worst effort to date. Try again if you want but I, for one, am a bit tired of your obsession with fan apathy from fans who have a valid reason to be apathetic. The goal is to give youngsters a reason not to be apathetic as they move on from Temple.

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
This site has an "ignore" feature.
I wish Temple had an "ignore" feature for apathy.
Please note girls, the poll is valid. It will be Temple's biggest home basketball game of the season with very significant implications and i wonder how many seats will be occupied by the opponents fans. 30, 40, 50% +
Could really care less what you folks are tired of. I'm tired of temple fans oblivious fantasies against the consequences of reality of their frugal stinginess.
NJ, you said you were putting your tix to this game on stubhub. i'll let you know which team's fans buy your seats...

Glad we are not doing a white out this game. There will be plenty of blue and yellow. And if you want beer, buy two at a time. Those old Irish guys fans of LaSalle clog up the lines.

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
FTR, they were already sold so please do. You already know from us having discussed this that i am often not able to make every game, particularly those on weeknights. Thursday happens to be one of those instances, but that doesn't make me a "bad fan" or a "horrible alum".
I don't sell the tickets to make a profit, preferring to see that they get used rather than having the seats remain empty.

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
sorry, 8 subway stops. Still, after going to the Duquesne game, there will have to be 5x the no. of TU students showing up for LaSalle for it to be even close to even.

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
I go to every game. The student section is disappointing. I am sure there are the same 100-200 kids or so that are diehards, but overall, the students, especially the ones who live right there and don't go to the games, suck. They will come out only for the bigger games. To me that is a disgrace. And what makes it worse is, why they become alums, they will do the same thing.

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
NJ, Wasnt insinuating your Temple tix were for profit in any way. Or that you were a bad fan. I know you are at all the games you can possibly make. I just suspect the people who will buy them will be Lasalle fans because they will do their part.
Im not against a Temple FB Stadium. I'm just against the notion that now Temple needs a campus stadium to attract fans. Then once built, what will be the next item Temple needs to attract fans.
I really believe the new joke will be whats the difference between Temple's empty campus stadium and the empty Linc.
About 200 million dollars. I assure you, none of thos dollars will be mine.
Go Owls

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
The original post and a couple of the responses are on target. Many of the other responses are typical of the board, all over the place and unfocused.
This Thursday's game could have a huge bearing on the outcome for the hoops season. A Big 5 title is on the line. For Temple, it is a chance to share the title. For La Salle, potentially even more as they can win it outright. It has been a long time since La Salle had this kind of season, so rightfully they should be excited and should grab all of the empty seats at the LC that they can.
If you ask Dunphy off the record, he might prefer to see the game played at the Palestra for the tradition. But since La Salle dusted St. Joe's there in front of 8,700 last night, and looked very good in doing so, it should be to TU's advantage playing at the LC. With the last placed field goal and three point percentage defense in the A-10, shutting LaSalle down on the perimeter would be a big challenge on any court.
It would be nice to share the Big 5 title, but even more important to get a win over a top 34 RPI team. A win should keep us on the right side of the bubble. A loss would probably punch La Salle's at-large ticket, barring a late season meltdown.
A guess on attendance is at least 8,000 with Temple having a 60-40 edge.

Re: Poll: Who will bring more students to the LC?
EmH,
I don't think the reason to build an on campus stadium is to attract fans. We already have a base in place. The problem with it is that our current venue is too cavernous for it so even when we have a nice crowd in place like we had for RU, the place remains half-empty, providing us with a pretty stale atmosphere and no home field advantage whatsoever.
All i have ever said about building on campus is imagine (imagine being the key word here) what it would be like to play a game against a conference foe in a venue packed close to capacity. That's where i have been on this from the day Theobold mentioned he was looking into conducting a study on whether it was feasable to do it.
Your argument is that you don't think a 35K seat venue would be fully occupied. I always begged to differ being we already have 18-20K that regularly attend games at the Linc, in addition to another 5K or so students and another 2K from the opposing team. Having 27K (or more) on campus would look a hell of a lot better to the team than seeing folks scattered all over the damn place inside the Linc.
And, as i have stated on a number of other occasions, it is the university's job not to go to Harrisburg to look for a "handout" to make this happen. PJL was able to get 50 mil or so in private funding to get the LC built. We'd have to do the same with the stadium and in addition hope that someone would be willing to put their name on the venue and pay annual naming rights. The balance of the project would be for TU to find a way to make it happen.
Again, like i have said from day 1. If our president after he has conducted studies concludes that it's not possible, i'll accept his decision and continue to attend games at the Linc.
BUT, if he concludes that it can be done and the university will proceed on the project, i'll have no issue bucking up additional money to pay for season tickets if that is what is needed to help finance the project.

I have gone to every Temple home game for a long time and I think the student section and band represent the school well. Go Owls. Beat La Salle.
