Internal Revenue Service never conducted an investigation into South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley’s involvement in a Sikh temple’s finances. Nanette Downing, Director of EO Examinations, stated in the letter, “…we did not conduct an examination for the above period (tax year ended 2009)”..."
I can say from having lived in both Carolinas that political corruption is rampant in both. Even if the Haley matter is false, there was just recently the indictment of Lt. Gov. Ard. There was also Cromartie who recently went down. In NC since I came here at turn of century, JIm Black, the Speaker of the House in the NC Legislature went down for taking payoffs and did time in Club Fed. The Secretary of Agriculture, Meg Scott Phipps, daughter and granddaughter of former NC Governors, was convicted of taking payoffs from a midway company for its servicing the NC State Fair. She was at Lady Club Fed at the same time as Martha Stewart. Just after he left office in 2009, former Governor Mike Easley was indicted concerning campaign funds. He got off with no time but still he was the first NC Governor to be indicted for an offense committed while in office. His Lt. Governor who was elected Governor after him, Bev Perdue, has been under investigation but never was indicted. She recently decided not to run for re-election this year. With things going so badly for Haley, even if she avoided this indictment, I would anticipate that she may also bow out of a second term.
