Dumb Conspiracies
I like conspiracy theories. I do. They're fun and they give us black and white answers, and they make us all feel that we're uncovering the X-files. And every once in a while there's some truth to them. But the latest, "Obama needed a bump in the polls so he faked (or timed) Osama Bin Laden's death" is ridiculous.
First, Obama's approval rating is currently hovering around 48% approve, 40-45% disapprove. It's been about that for a year. There has been no major dip, although the "left wing" media keeps reporting on his "low" or "falling" poll numbers for the past year some reason. In truth, his poll numbers are just about average at this point for US presidents over the last 40+ years. Not that he deserves those numbers, but the numbers are what they are.
Second, 48% is exactly what Bush was a month before the 2004 election, which he obviously won. The year ahead of the 1984 election, Ronald Reagan was hovering around 45%. 48% is not a panic situation, politically. Especially when you are leading all but one possible candidate (Romney) in nearly all head-to-head polling data. Palin, Pawlenty, Huckabee, Newt, Trump and Bachman - they are all polling at 8-20+ points behind Obama, which would make for an easy win, or even a Walter Mondale-style crush. I'm telling you now that there will be a 5-15% bump in the polls, and it will be gone in three months. So why now? What possible purpose does it serve?
Third, there isn't an election for another year and a half. If he cooked up a plan to involve the CIA, the joint chiefs, and the Navy Seals to put this plan together then why would they waste it now? The conspiracy depends on a calculated, precision plan by Democrats. Democrats can't plan their way out of a wet paper bag. "I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!" - Will Rogers. Also, if you think it is fake, then you think the Navy Seals are willing participants in the sham. Way to support the troops!
Finally, the whole "show us the body"/"show us the pictures" rhetoric... some folks are saying that it didn't happen because we haven't shown pictures of the body. There has been a few fake pictures posted, but the administration and military haven't released the actual images. Why? Did you ever think that this might be because we have soldiers on the ground in the middle of Iraq and Afghanistan? When they are released they will plaster Bin Laden's mutilated corpse on every paper across the middle east. Don't you think our military commanders know that? Don't you think that they might want to let our soldiers deal with the aftermath of death and let everything calm down a little before the photos are made public?
Again, I like conspiracy theories, but this one is just dumb. Gimme a Roswell any day...

End of Story! Exactly. The bad guy is dead. The princess got married. It's like it was scripted by Disney. Sometimes things go right in the world and we should just enjoy it. |

I think they're insinuating that he was already dead, and they faked the death over again for poll numbers.

You see I think the guys been dead for years (based on what I heard a couple of insiders say several years ago). All this time I've thoght that he was dead and still think he was. I don't buy the entire story surrounding 911 based on research that some of the relatives did when they confronted the committee during the Congressional hearing. They didn't get the answers that they were looking for, neither did I. As a matter of fact they opened more questions. Besides, it was necessary for us to have a created "boogie man" enemy in order for the government to pass such disgusting peices of Legislation such as the "Patriot Act" in order to be used to destroy the Constitution. And now continued under Obama with the TSA molestation. Look, I don't know if Osama was dead already or not and I don't really care. the fact is that he's dead now (or hanging with Elvis and Tupac  ). The fact is that he was a former CIA operative during their war with Russia during the 80's and he was a set-up for an "Operation Nothwoods" type of event (911). I don't trust the government and I don't look to the government as my Savior. i know that offends some and that's not my intent. And I know some think that it's a stupid, "UNEDUCATED" viewpoint but I really could care less. It's the people of the United States that make the country great. It's the soldiers, The Constitution and our freedoms NOT the corrupt government.

I agree there are a lot of questions about 9/11 that should have been answered. It is a travesty that Congress spent more investigating and holding hearings on Barry Bonds than they did on the 9/11 commission. It is ridiculous that the Patriot Act is still in place. Most people don't realize it was written before 9/11 and it couldn't get passed. Along comes the tragedy, and it passes with flying colors, and with even more restrictions on our rights. Funny, that. Like I said, I'm fine with conspiracies. I think I'm only bothered by these two portions of recent ones: it was faked for a bump in poll numbers (reasons detailed above), and to eliminate Trump as a contender (The guy is ridiculous and if I'm being honest I would guess that he has only a slightly better chance of being elected as a dump Newt took back in '94). I guess the point I'm making is why have a huge government conspiracy - one that likely involves tens or hundreds of individuals - if only to achieve one tiny outcome? Poll numbers, really? By the way, Rooster, these posts weren't a reaction to you specifically. I made the mistake of wandering over to FreeRepublic.com and saw the nuts in all their glory  |

Haha, I feel ya. I realize that it wasn't a personal thing towards me I just wanted the opportunity to voice my distrust of government (and not just ours, most of them) to the point that I don't put anything past them. They are capable of anything and are in control of everything.

So here's the result of the vast global conspiracy ... 3%. A 3% approval rating increase. Plus, if the goal of the conspiracy was to get approval ratings then wouldn't it be easier to point all conspiratorial efforts at manipulating the poll numbers?  |

Good to know that Al Qaeda agreed to play a long and claim that he's dead. They're such sweethearts.... I've also heard, "he's really been dead for 8-10 years and Barack is using this as a political move." My answer, I'm sure Bush would've kept such knowledge secret during his admin....

The worst conspiracy theory of all time has to be that the government knew about and was in control of 9/11. How can a government that can't control sex scandals do that?

I have to agree. Government can't organize a trip to the bathroom and yet they acted with laser like precision on September 11, 2001 to hide a terrorist attack on their own citizenry. What a joke.
Conspiracies are great in that they give the author(s) a feeling of superiority. "I'm so smart I know what's going on behind the curtain. This is how it really is....".
