Muskrats!!!!!!! .22 Recommendations?

You prepare for war and hope for peace, but sometimes you must go to war.

I was just at my folks place at Lake Murray yesterday and they've got a muskrat invasion going on.

I saw them a couple of weeks ago and just thought it was a large family of otters, but yesterday I saw a big fat one, had to be 3.5-4 lbs. up in the yard. They've dug into the yard from the lake and it could be a freaking major problem. There's already a big hole in front of the dock and they did $800+ damage to my neighbor's boat.

Apparently, only a licensed trapper can trap 'em, so I'm looking at a .22 rifle to do what I can. I had the fat one sighted up nice with my glock but I decided not to blast .40 40-ft from the neighbor's house.

I'm looking at the Ruger SR-22. It looks solidly made, and I trust the 10-22 guts. But I also like the looks of the S&W MP-15 22. I'm more a com-block battle rifle guy but I've been planning on picking up an AR or AR piston rifle soon, and I figure the M&P is both a .22 plinker and an AR practice tool in one.

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with either or any other suggestions for dealing with my despicable enemy. Is it legal to put a can on a rifle in SC? A suppressed .22 would be perfect for my planned suburban slaughter.

I love my Ruger.  Shot this big buck off my bird feeder.

I would look at Henry rifles. 100% made in USA. Plus they are beautiful mantle pieces. Smooth lever action.
