Eric Mack leaves Auburn Post Rating (1 vote)

Those who follow South Carolina recruiting will remember the drama of the Gamecock staff backing off of Mack, and Mack eventually choosing Auburn. The loudest noise involving Mack since he arrived in Auburn was not on the football field, but when Mack was shot in a highly publicized off campus shooting.

Now comes word that Mack has left the Auburn program "of his own accord." The Gamecock staff are looking pretty smart now...

I agree. Alshon Jeffery, who went to the same highschool as Eric Mack, committed to the Gamecocks and now he is in the NFL. You can clearly see the difference.
"Winning is not a sometime thing: it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do the right thing once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing." - Vince Lombardi (NFL Hall of Fame Coach)

Erick hasn't left Auburn. He is still in school. He was shot and can't play football anymore. I don't see how that makes the USC staff look smart. Did they anticipate him getting shot?

The biggest part of the story is that he's still in school at Auburn, but never recovered from the shooting. Not something to celebrate or even remotely praise USC's coaches for in hindsight. Which I did, and shouldn't have. My apologies.

Well you did a great job of "manning up" about it Doug. Kudos.

I look forward to reading more of your work.

Take care and go Cocks!

I didn't follow recruiting very closely that year. What'd he do?

Eric Mack showed up on his official visit to South Carolina as a silent commit to Auburn. However, he had lied and verbally confirmed he was signing with USC to the USC staff before coming in. During his visit he was disrespectful to USC staff, including taking a cell phone call while in his one-on-one with Spurrier in his office. He was actually talking Auburn while on USC campus to fellow recruits and showing a total lack of respect for USC, mocking things on the tour. AD Eric Hyman actually made the call to end USC recruitment of Mack after his visit.

What were the circumstances of his getting shot?

It was a fight over a girl at an apartment complex where several Auburn players and ex-players lived.

OPELIKA, Alabama -- Desmonte Leonard, the man accused of killing three and wounding three at a June 9 pool party at an Auburn apartment complex, pled not guilty to all charges at his arraignment on Thursday at the Lee County Justice Center.

Leonard, 23, has been indicted on one count of capital murder for the shooting deaths of former Auburn football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips, and Opelika resident DeMario Pitts.

Leonard also faces two counts of attempted murder for shooting at current Auburn wide receiver DeAngelo Benton and Turquorius Vines, one count of first-degree assault for shooting Roanoke's John Robertson and two counts of second-degree assault for shooting current Auburn guard Eric Mack and Xavier Moss of Roanoke.

Ahh....well then I can understand the feelings towards him. Sounds like another one of those prima donna types that enjoys playing games. We've had a few of those too. T. J. Yeldon last year for example. Some of these kids need to learn to be more respectful. The games get tiresome and are a big reason that I don't follow recruiting very closely anymore.

Re: Eric Mack leaves Auburn

I think kids and their families who have invested in their upbringing and support have every right to make the decision on a football program of their choice. I don't post some of the sour grapes stuff too many posters do when a kid picks another program. Eric Mack is an exception. He was the most low life recruit I remember us being involved with. That pos came on an official visit on our big recruiting weekend and proceeded to down rate us to as many of our top recruits as possible and push them to allbarn, especially  top rb. I suspect that low life disgrace to college football tt was urging him on, since he was the allbarn recruiter for that top rb who ending up signing with us. I'm glad allbarn got Mack. They deserved feeding his fat rear end with no return.
