Gamecocks lose to Florida 75-36

The Gamecocks men basketball team lose to #4 ranked Florida 75-36...EMBARRASSING banghead. It was a 39 point beatdown. This is not Coach Martin's fault. Being that this is Coach Frank Martin and his coaching staff FIRST year coaching the Gamecocks they can use this game as a measuring stick to see how far behind the Gamecocks men basketball program is from being a top basketball program. Florida had better athletes/talent on the floor tonight against the Gamecocks. The Gamecocks need better athletes especial BIG men that can score and rebound against the top elite nationally ranked teams. Either this young 2012-2013 Gamecocks men basketball team will get better and learn from this loss OR get worse, feel sorry for themselves, and quit on the rest of the season.

I don't think they will quit, too many "Fighting" Gamecosks on the team to quit plus the coaches leadership. Remember the beatdown purrier's first year, the team did not quit. This one won't either.

Re: Gamecocks lose to Florida 75-36

Martin wasn't my first choice, but I like him and think that, in time, he'll go a good job.  But it is going to take time and along the way there are going to be plenty of bumps in the road.  And discouraging and embarrassing beat downs like what occurred last night.   What was particularly embarrassing was we only had 10 points at the half.  I thought it was utterly amazing that Northern Illinois only scored 4 in a half over the weekend, but we didn't do much better.

But look where were in football back in 1998-99 and where we are now.  Hopefully it won't take that long to fix the basketball program and hopefully Martin is the man who can do it.  But I'm afraid that we are going to have to have patience and endure a few more embarrassing loses before we get there.  Until then, at least some of us older guys have memories of John Roche and company.

It was not pretty at all, but in my opinion Florida is going to win the National Championship. They will at least be in the Final Four. We are no where near the talent level of that team. Frank is doing his job recruiting and hopefully we soon will be on the same level as the better teams in the conference.

Florida is one of the better teams in the country and it is no disgerace to lose to them. And I like what Martin is doing at Carolina, but not being able to break a full court press is just a lack of coaching...a good high school coach can teach his team to break a press...I'm sure Martin will correct that, but the Cocks were not prepared last night...

Re: Gamecocks lose to Florida 75-36

Considering the fact that UF has easily dominated the SEC this season, this comes as little surprise.  One fact remains, we have no offense and when we go cold, the whole team couldn't hit the broad side of a barn!

UF should easily win the SEC and SEC tourney and I wouldn't be surprised to see them at least make the Final 4.  It's amazing what Donovan has done down there.  Before he arrived UF didn't have much of a bball program but now they're a powerhouse.  Of course some of that can also be attributed to UFs huge rise in football before and after Donovan got there.  Spurrier helped build so many UF programs up indirectly by what he did for their football program.

Re: Gamecocks lose to Florida 75-36

I believe I heard that Florida averages wins by a 22.6 point margin this year; they average about 73.7 points/game. This was before our match-up with them. That should tell us that they get things done on both sides of the ball (offense and defense). They are 7-0 in conference. The main thing that they are is extremely confident.

I think it was good to go against this type of team at this point in our schedule, barring the result. This kind of match-up at this point in the season will make - or break - a team. I am anxious to see how this group will come out against a Jawja team that has won three straight in-conference games.

We aren't even close to the talent, depth, poise and confidence that Florida has to date. We should know this. It will take us some time to get there. But there is plenty for our guys to play for, post-Florida. We now know where we stand against the top teams in the nation. We have a lot of room to improve and many facets of our game to work on and perfect.

Shake this one off and get ready for a good Jawja team this Saturday. Take one game at a time and grow off of the experience.

Go Gamecocks!!!

Florida is final four material and like it or not, Donavan is one of the best coaches ever in the SEC.  He recruits his butt off and surrounds himself with competent coaches, usually ex-head coaches like Shyatt and Pelfrey.  His record speaks for itself.

They are very confident...They have been to the Elite Eight the last two years with pretty much the same group of players....

Re: Gamecocks lose to Florida 75-36

It is very frustrating after SUFFERING through Coach Horn's coaching tenure with the Gamecocks which resulted in no NCAA tournament appearances for the Gamecocks. It is going to take Coach Martin a few seasons/years to get his type of players to turnaround the Gamecocks men basketball program. It would have been great if Coach Frank Martin was hired as the Gamecocks head men basketball coach when Coach Odom left. Coach Frank Martin already has a top 25 recruiting class for 2013. I am ready for the Gamecocks to start winning BIG in basketball, become a top 25 nationally ranked team, and make the NCAA tournament on a yearly basis. The Gamecocks only been to one NCAA tournament during the last decade. Coach Frank Martin is the right coach to change the culture, but it will take time.

Good things come for those who are patient. What we witnessed last night was sweat equity to the nth degree. Our guys will learn a lot from this type of beat down... mainly, to not let it happen again.

Coach Martin will turn this around. It may take a year, two or three. But he has the intestinal fortitude to herd these cats and make em preform.

Go Gamecocks!!!
