I think some people wanted us to try to get Chris Rumph back here as our DL coach. I personally do not want him ever to be allowed to set foot on USC's campus the way he talked crap about us while at Clemsux. What do you guys think? Was he ever a consideration for SOS? Would you want him back?
Thanks for everything you've accomplished here Marcus....Good luck in the NFL!!

Re: Chris Rumph (1 vote)
I heard there was contact from Rumph about the position, but he could have been using it as leverage for a raise. I sort of had mixed feelings about whether I would have wanted him. If Spurrier had wanted him, that would have been good enough I suppose.

Re: Chris Rumph (1 vote)
Too many other good coaches to mess with the controversial Rumph. I think a good portion of the Gamecock fans would be irate. A few others are ready to forgive.
For me he sided with Fat Brad. 'nuf said.

Re: Chris Rumph (1 vote)
I wonder if he ever has donated one dime to the Gamecock club as many ex-athletes have done. After all, he's been making decent coin for quite a while. That would tell me all I need to know.

RE: Chris Rumph
We have a DL coach in Deke. Rump was a good player for us, but I don't know if he is a good DL coach or not. He did say some things that I thought were in poor taste, but when another school is paying you 6 figures... well, see Will Muschamp.

Re: Chris Rumph (1 vote)
Had no problem with him going to Clempson to coach. The man needed a job and if he could get one in college over HS, then it makes sense from a monetary and resume standpoint.
Had no problem him going for the same recruits USC were after, that is a normal situation.
I had a problem when he trashed USC (i.e. the standard Clempson approach) as being the point where I washed my hands of him. He could recruit on the supposed "good things" about Clempson, talk them up, but the negative recruiting against his alma mater is wrong and nothing can excuse it. If Devo pressured him into that type recruiting then he should have refused as a matter of principle. Such things you should not sell out, even if that means losing that job and starting over.
I don't want him ever coaching here. That bridge has been burned and he is the one who set it on fire.

Re: Chris Rumph (1 vote)
The speed with which Spurrier filled the spot indicates that he also doesnt have a bit of interest in Rumph...

Pretty sure that spot had been filled before it was ever announced that Lawing was leaving. I think Deke was sitting around waiting on the call.

I'm in line with qcbrat. I didn't mind him trying to do a good job recruiting for his employer, but the negativity he spewed to recruits about his alma mater were inexcusable.
Thanks for everything you've accomplished here Marcus....Good luck in the NFL!!

I agree. Wish we could arrest him if he ever steps foot on the Carolina campus again! To me he is a low life liar!

I don't care if he needed a job or not. You don't join the enemy camp and fight against us. You may not have a problem with it but a lot of us do.

While no one liked the fact that he coached and recruited at Clemson everyone understands why. But the manner in which he conducted himself while there was intollerable. Don't want him back back unless he buys a ticket to watch Gamecock football from the bleachers just like anyone else. Sell-out

He was basically telling recruits not to make the same mistake he did by coming to Carolina. He said we tell recruits to come help us change the culture but we still keep losing. We have been losing for a hundred years and will keep on losing. By the way when he left tatertown he was telling recruits that clemson cant win but at Alabama they could win big. So he is for whoever is paying him at the moment and doesn't mind trashing former employers or his alma mater.

RE: Chris Rumph (1 vote)
Kind of funny that he and the Fat Bradsturd could not win, but we aren't having that problem now that they are gone. At some point the evidence has to say that it isn't the place, it's the coach that was at the place at that time.
"You can't win there."
No, coach, YOU can't win.
