Dylan Thompson - long ball king
With his 70-yard pass to Nick Jones, Dylan Thompson has three completions of 50-plus yards on 121 passes this season. Connor Shaw only has five such passes in 430 career throws.

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
My opinion doesn't matter, BUT to me going into next year Dylan should be considered the starter.

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Dylan seems to check down ALL his receivers. Threw that last TD knowing he was going to get smacked. He did well...Connor did well too, it just seems that Thompson has that extra touch on his throws. Both can provide a formidable duo if used properly!

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Thompson can make all the throws that an SOS offense runs. Shaw, just doesn't have the same arm strength. Shaw brings mobility, leadership, experience and knows how to win.
I am sure HBC will allow competition to sort through the situation, and the best player will start next season.
You just know deep down that HBC is giddy that he has finally found a QB that can make good reads and throw the deep ball....

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
We have seen these two QBs together this week. They truly like and respect each other. I know they practice rotating in and out. It just seemed seamless today.

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Dylan Thompson played GREAT! The Gamecocks have two great QBs in Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson. Redshirt Freshman Parade All-American QB Brendan Nosovitch will add to that total during spring practice. The future is very bright for the Gamecocks!

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
DT has certainly made a believer out of me. The more playing time he gets the more confidence he builds. The more confidence he has the more composure that he brings, which we saw yesterday. Our long passing game has finally emerged as a consistent threat for the first time in forever....... I'm so hoping that we can now look forward to a more consistent and potent offense going into the 2013 season We now have the best QB duo that we've ever had at any given time
Back to Back for the Garnet & Black!

We now have the best QB duo that we've ever had at any given time The QBs are stepping up at the right time...our running game was non-existent against Michigan except for Connor...we've got a great stable of running backs but somebody needs to step up and be the MAN in 2013.....

Having two great QBs in Shaw and Thompson is a good problem.

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
offensive line does not block well enough for the RBs we have now, that's the issue

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Dylan comes from very good stock. His little brother is tearing it up at Boilings Springs too.
I met Dylan's dad a few years ago; told him I had heard there was a very good, young QB coming out of Boiling Springs. He responded, "yeah, that's my son!". I could've crawled under the carpet! We laugh about it now.
I've got a lot of faith in Dylan's abilities. His firm belief in his own abilities and where they come from will take him far. He is a fine young man and I couldn't be more proud of him if he were my own flesh and blood!
Go Gamecocks!!!

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Dylan is an interesting story. Was discovered during a QB camp with Spurrier. SOS said, "Son you've got a scholarship here." This after watching him fling it around. Thompson literally accepted on the spot. That's why he did not get any more acclaim coming out of Boiling Springs.
Also, the fact he wanted to stay through May of his senior H.S. year cost him a shot at competing with Connor. The rest as they say is history. I do believe that given a square shot he will beat Connor out this spring. I just think Spurrier has a thing for coach's sons thus the added loyalty to Shaw. Rightly so.

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Don't get me wrong. I love Connor and everything he's done for the program, but Dylan has the arm strength that we haven't seen in a long while.
I can't really explain it. It's like Dylan has a certain "touch" on his passes. We're definitely going to have a QB competition this spring.....

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Dylan will be successful as long as the OLine will block for him.. If the line gives him time then he can make the completions.

Re: Dylan Thompson - long ball king
Shaw will undergo a foot operation and it is highly likely he will not be available for Spring practices. Could this be his "Wally Pipp*" moment?
Go Gamecocks!!!

* - Wally Pipp was the Yankees first baseman that came to the ballpark with a headache. Miller Huggins, Yankees skipper, gave him a couple of aspirin and told him to take a seat. Lou Gehrig got his first start that day. Pipp never played for the Yankees again.
