Email Addres to write concerning the Referee in the Outbacl Bowl
rogers redding secretary-rules editor e-mail: footballrules@ncaa.org
The rule in question is Football Rule 1, Article 7, letter a.
Here is the email I sent in case anybody wants to write & copy paste mine.
Dear Mr. Redding, I am writing regarding Football Rule Number 1, Article 7, letter a. concerning the poles and chain for line to make. In the January 1, 2013, Outback Bowl today, Michigan attempted to make a first down on a fourth down play against South Carolina. The play was immediately in front of the South Carolina coaching staff and team on the sidelines. The official put the ball forward slightly from where it seemed it should go and then called for a measurement. The measurement was short by over one inch. On ESPN television anyone could see that there was clearly a space between the forward most point of the ball and the pole on which the chain was terminated. There was somewhere like a link and a half of chain showing clearly in the space. The head official declared it to be a first down. Coach Steve Spurrier protested and the official took a second look. Again the official signaled first down while plainly and clearly the ball did not reach the pole. Can you tell me if the NCAA will review this instance to determine why an official would make such a call which was obviously wrong and plain for the viewing audience to see? Some action should be taken to be sure that this type of error or favoritism does not occur again. Thank you. Bill Prince
"[Georgia’s] offensive line gave away when they were going to hike the ball, so I got a good jump on it.” — South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney

Thank you for your email. Why do you think he is in the Big East.
Sincerely,
The NCAA

I can't believe they still got it wrong on the review. That live shot and camera angle, you could see the light of day between the ball and the pole!
Go Gamecocks!!!

gacock Actually ga, the call is not reviewable so that is a moot point. What was reviewed was the spotting of the ball. If SOS could have gotten the ball moved back even an inch, they would have revisited the original call and plainly seen that it was not a first down.

Re: Email Addres to write concerning the Referee in the Outbacl
We could not see it in our seats. We sat beside the Michigan band and it was too far to see. What I did see was Steve Spurrier very angry. I am glad to see a photo. Clowney did not like it and justice was done. That players helmet is orbiting the earth. This was one of the best college games I have ever seen. It is great to come and see a bowl game like this. Both teams really played well and it was almost too exciting.

Even the other Refs knew:
"I asked one of those other refs there. I said, `You know the ball did not touch the first-down marker.' He said, `I know it didn't.' I said, `Well, why did he give it to them?' and he said, `I don't know,"' Spurrier said.

I love Spurriers response "Clowney knocked the ball out the next play, so I'm glad they gave it to them. ... We gained about 10 or 15 yards."
typical Spurrier pushing the knife in just a little deeper. I am so glad he is our coach

This same thing has been happening to us all year. We have gone in to the 4th quarter with double digit penalties...while the other team will have zero...or 1. See FSU game. BTW...ONE HELL of a performance yesterday! One of the most enjoyable games all year. Clowney NO DOUBT is the best college football player in the Nation. I always pull for USCe except for 1 game a yr. Still love the OBC!

That crew is incompetent and/or crooked. They should never be allowed to officiate another game.
