Re: The death of SEC basketball
Thats why we brought in Mizzou (11-1 in pre-conference play) and that is why we keep Kentucky in the SEC. One might say, with the inclusion of Florida (9-1 pre-conference), the SECe is basketball central for the conference.
Give Frank Martin time and his guys and the Gamecock cagers will be back... with a vengeance!
Go Gamecocks!!!

Re: The death of SEC basketball
Well...outside of Kentucky and sometimes Florida SEC basketball has mostly been a sideshow for sometime now. Carolina basketball specifically has been mediocre to poor since the early 70s except for two of Fogler's teams.
Yes I do care. However it will be a long road back to prominence for this school. As to the rest of the league who's to say but it doesn't seem to be on the top of most peoples wish list.
I can help but wonder if the "thug mentality" many people attribute to basketball keeps it low on the wish list. The one and done stuff isn't helping either.

Re: The death of SEC basketball
Has the SEC really been that bad ? Gators havce been in the Elite 8 the past two years (and it looks like they're better this year) and Kentucky is still...well, Kentucky. It only takes about 6 to 8 good to great players to go a long way in basketball and there are a lot of schools that can compete.... Indiana State wasn't on anybody's radar until thay got Larry Bird....UNC-Charlotte was a backwater until they got Cornbread Maxwell...that's why it's so much fun to watch March madness...anybody can win...

I haven't gone back and checked, but I believe the SEC has a NCAA tournament record in the last few years that rivals the ACC. I don't think the SEC has been that bad. Could be a little down this year though.

RE: The death of SEC basketball
The top of the SEC is good, the middle is average for most conferences, but the bottom is B.A.D.

RE: The death of SEC basketball
As far as I'm concerned, this is great news. I hope it stays bad for a little while. I fully expect Coach Frank Martin to take the Gamecocks to the top of the conference standings. If the other teams are mediocre, he can do it even faster. Get ready. We will quickly move up in men's basketball, just as we have moved up in baseball, football and women's basketball. Go Gamecocks!

Surprised Vandy lost, they usually put a good product on the court.

In other news, Bama lost to Mercer, and Texas A&M lost to Southern.
