So what is it with everyone's love affair with Michigan? Sure they have a rich history, cool unis, awesome mascot, 100,000 + seat stadium and are the winningest team in football but none of that should have an affect on our game.

SC has lost a total of 2 games, 2 road games in 2 of the most difficult places to play in back-to-back weeks yet everyone seems to be picking the Wolverines. I can't tell you how many "experts" I've heard picking them, not to mention callers to various radio shows. Personally I don't think it's gonna be close because I think we will demolish Michigan. I think we beat them by 3 tds.

I say:
Gamecocks  34
Wolverines   10

What do you think?

If we were playing them in the middle of the seson I would agree because I think we're the better team...what scares me is how seriously are the guys taking the game ? It's two weeks until Christmas, school is out, lots of parties going on, lots of free time, probably got three or fours girls to think about...weird things happen in bowl games....

It's not like our starting QB hasn't taken a snap in 29 days or so.....oh....no...wait...that's right.....our starting QB hasn't taken a snap in 29 days or so.

Other than that...the Blue have the same distractions as the Garnet.

Why have we not been practicing? Other schools have.

There is a limit set by the NCAA on how many practices you can have before your game....different schools handle it differently....think I read that UCF was having two-a-days because they play in an early bowl and the coach wanted to use up all his alloted practices... I think most coaches give the kids a couple of weeks off and resume practice about two weeks before the game...

Those are my feelings exactly. Had we played them the week after the clempson game, I believe we would have won by 2 TDs. I expect this game to be close with USC winning it in the 2nd half.

Connor has not been practicing because of his foot injury....he hasn't taken a snap since the Wofford game.

Still ....Dillon knows what to do with the rock.

Well ....no.   There is not a limit on the number of practices....this from the NCAA.org

What are NCAA guidelines for bowl teams and practice?

Although there is no specific limit on the number of practices teams may hold while preparing for a bowl game, standard NCAA rules apply for student-athletes’ participation in practice or other athletically related activities. Same as the regular season, these rules limit practice and other athletic activities to a maximum of four hours per day and 20 hours per week.

I can count, on one hand, the amount of Michigan Fans I know that think we are going to win this game.

I think it will be competitive, but we are still repairing the dumpster fire Rich Rod left us.   We have to play our best game of the year and win the turnover battle to beat you guys which is something we haven't done all year verse good competition.

Looking forward to Lewan vs Clowney.  Should be quite the battle.

It'll be interesting how we plan to go against a mobile QB...Don't you guys use duo QB's?

If you can call Denard a QB.  It has morphed more into a wild-cat with Denard back there.  He hasn't thrown a football in well over a month.  He has a nerve problem in his elbow right now.

We have shown flashes of a pretty explosive offense with Denard lined up next to Devin Gardner.  Gardner was a 5 star QB coming out of high school.  He's one to keep an eye on.  This could be his coming out party, at least that's what I'm hoping.

If you can beat our front 4, then you will have a chance.

Just don't bet on beating our DL. Just don't bet on it.

If they come to play,..............just don't bet on it.

Re: M

I hope this will really start Clowney for Heisman.
I am concerned about our QBs. Srurrier says both will play. I don't see hos Connor will play without taking snaps. He would be very rusty. I know Steve feels loyal to Connor. Maybe that is why he is giving him the start knowing Dylan will come in soon.

Re: M

So, do you start Dylan to set up the run (under Shaw, later in the game) with the pass?

I am excited to see Shon's return to the gridiron in Tampa. A jitterbug with speed that can allude tackles, but hasn't seen the field since our game against UGa in Athens in '11... long time coming. I hate that he will forego a sixth year doing so, but I am excited to see him take the chance and be a reliable RB for us in the Fall of '13... we will need him then and he will need the experience (now) against a formidable Michigan defense.

But what a one, two, three punch on the ground... Miles (experience), Davis (gamer that can run through tackles, good for +4 yards/carry) and Shon (quick moves with speed)... added to Shaw in the backfield and you might have to set up the run with the pass (Dylan to Ellington/Sanders/Cunningham/Jones).

There are ways to set up a brilliant offensive plan for our opponent's DC to figure out. I'd like for it to take him four quarters to get comfortable with what he sees from above.

Go Gamecocks!!!

I hear what you are sayin' ga but....when Dillon is in the game....wouldn't you play a pass first defense?

Re: M

Mine is kind've a moot point as HBC has alluded to the fact that Connor will start; he is our first team QB. I know that Michigan's defense is pretty formidable against the run and are pretty solid against the pass (OSU ran for +200 net yards, passed for 189 with no picks). OSU was balanced in their attack. I don't recall how well Michigan's DL covers from sideline to sideline (speed). They cover en masse (pursue the ball) so I would assume you have to spread the field a bit.

Most of the film they have on us will have Connor as our starting QB. My gut tells me they will do their best to contain him and force him to throw. I don't think anything between the tackles will go for great yardage as it usually doesn't against a team that can effectively put more than one body on a runner.

After watching Dylan throw the ball against Tater U., he does a couple of things very well. He checks off his receivers and usually gets it in capable hands; he will stay in the pocket pretty well and utilize his protection. Was surprised to see him scramble some for plus yardage in the last game but I am afraid their defensive front might not give him much room to roll out or bolt ahead.

I think the best thing I saw from Dylan was that sideline pass to Ellington that went +30 yards in the air and hit him on the numbers. It was a beautiful pass completion and he can throw a catchable ball with zip on it.

To your point, if they see Dylan come on the field, they will make immediate adjustments to go pass defense against Dylan. With the availability of Carson now, I think Dylan has more weapons at his disposal; Carson has a soft pair of hands out of the backfield and is a burner. He is pretty hard to see in the backfield at 5'8"-9" and if he gets two steps on a defender, watch out. His only intangible is the amount of time he has been off the field with injuries. Let them gain respect with Miles/Davis/Carson... all three have good hands for the dump off pass if needed.

So (even though I know it won't happen), I'd love to see them prep for the pass and kill em in close with some ground speed to open things up. The true football genius wears a Gamecock visor and has forgotten more football than I will ever know!

Go Gamecocks!!!
