We just lost Matt Rolin

We just lost Matt Rolin Post Rating (2 votes)

Reports are he just committed to  Florida.. The position we need the most next year, and our coaching staff blows the load.. No way in hell we should lose this kid to UF when his whole  family went to school here.

That's two positions of critical need we have lost in CB and now LB.

Sorry blast away.. But we should not be losing recruits like this anymore.

Maybe we need to start telling these kids we will start recruiting other kids at their position if they were committed to us, then  decide to take more official visits..

Unfortunate. I really want to say something, but will refrain. Thanks. H

This guy has continually been all about the Gamecocks, encouraging other recruits to join him. Why on earth did Dr. Guy do his knee a few days ago? That is the info I have. He will ride the bench at Florida for a few years. He was really needed here. He would have rehabbed and be put into the game as soon as he was healed. I am disappointed by this kid.

Let Rolin go to the Gators. The Gamecocks want players with high character. The Gamecocks coaches will regroup and continue to recruit and bring in "other" top talented players. Never underestimate Coach Spurrier and his coaching staff. Either you are with the Gamecocks or against the Gamecocks.
"Winning is not a sometime thing: it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do the right thing once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing." - Vince Lombardi (NFL Hall of Fame Coach)

Re: your last paragraph. That's an essential part of the problem created by Rolin's decommit. He waits around 'til damn near mid-December to pull this crap. Good timing for a prima donna, but a real pain in the rear for our recruiting strategy.

RE: We just lost Matt Rolin

I'd also like to add what kind of person continuously touts his faith in God while going back on his word and lying to so many people. The guy then uses prayer as a justification for lying. Hey Matt Rolin, I encourage you to spend a little more time on the Bible reading where it says "Thou shalt not bear false witness."

We should all feel good that this happened now, and that we have another 4 star MLB prospect that favors us in the kid from Maryland. Larenz Bryant is the best LB prospect we've had in a long time. While Rolin would have been a nice piece.....we'll move on.

18 years old and making a life changing decision.  A lot of pressure for him.  All signs pointed to him going our way, and there have been people we took (Gilmore, Davis, Holiman) who had committed to other teams.  You never know who will be in the final group, even Rolin could be, but I wish the young man well in his endeavors and hope he has a good career.

And when it comes to challenging a young mans witness, "let him without sin cast the first stone."

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage. - Anais Nin

TruetoUSC, I am not saying lets go stone somebody to death like the quotations you mention from the Bible.

Also, what good is someone's witness if they are displaying wrong actions? It seems to me like that just makes it easier for someone to point out hypocrisy and lose interest.

I hope he recovers from his ACL surgery and we see him playing in a few years. He had his knee repaired this past week in Columbia, leading everybody in Gamecock Nation to rely on his word to play here as truth. He has 4.8 speed so he should fit right in with Florida. ;-)

Sucks to lose him. Seems to be a good kid. Oh well, time to move on. There's that Yannick Ngakoue kid, maybe Jalen Stevens and an outside shot at Reuben Foster. Plus we have Larenz Bryant, Kight Dallas and Gerald Turner committed. We'll be OK.

Good points all, Zero. I'm hoping this will all look brighter down the road than it does right now. This was very disappointing.

Re: We just lost Matt Rolin

It will be OK. It has happened before and to all schools. The big deal here was the guy's all out pumping of Carolina and his family connection. People do not like getting played. We thought he was one of us. There is no guarantee until they sign. It actually makes Rolin look like a total jerk, not a stand up guy.

Maybe Rolin should consider politics as well, seeing his bait and switch technique

Who cares, if he wants to play for UF I hope he he has a nice time down there. If he doesn't want to be here I don't want him here.

No way. Kids film looks great. With his size and injury, a redshirt is for certain. We are losing a few LBs also.

Leave the young man be!!! Other possible recruits will see these posts and form their opinions about Carolina fans. He is 18 and having fun with a lot of pressure to make a serious decision. One person said he'll ride the bench at uf for a while; that means he's learning from better guys ahead of him. You would want to redshirt as many freshman as you can because your team is already good. Stop bad mouthing the young man. Good luck Matt. We'll be seeing you in a few seasons..

Guess who didn't stress losing this Rolin guy? Me. That's because I'm a recovering recruitnik. As I post every year, join me, you won't miss it.
