To all my fellow Gamecocks

To all my fellow Gamecocks Post Rating (2 votes)

I have been living outside of South Carolina for 36 years, but by the Grace of God, I will be moving back to my native soil on December 17! We have sold our home in Charlotte where we have been living 'temporarily' for the past 29, and we have bought a home in Georgetown, downtown, 2 blocks from Front St. Georgetown is just so cool, and there are festivals, boat shows and gatherings too many to mention. It is 12 miles from Pawleys Island, and on a good day Michael Roth could prolly throw a baseball across Winyah Bay onto deBordieux.

We have a daughter who lives in Mt. Pleasant across the marsh from Sullivan's Island so it's only 57 miles approximately from door to door.

They have a Carolina-Clemson tradition there where the fan of the losing team has to pay for the fan of the winner of the Carolina-Clemson game and from what I hear there's always a big crowd. The lunch this year is tomorrow, Dec 6, so I'm hopefully gonna have some Clemson fan pay for mine next December!

If any of you out there live in Georgetown, Pawleys, Litchfield or thereabouts, how about PM me!

Great news, Theodore!!! I can almost see you beachcombing, swinging in a hammock, drink in hand, metal detector nearby.

Having grown up on Sullivans Island, I am envious you are getting back to the SC shore. I live on Escambia Bay here in Florida and the beaches here are snow white. But, it will never be my real "home"! Very happy for you Teddy. You'll love Georgetown. I spent a lot of summers on Pawley's Island. I love the entire area. Someone here in Florida asked me why I loved that area so much. I responded that "I had it made because my kids spent my money and my neighbors took care of my business"!

I would give anything in the world to return to the state I love the most....SC!  I was born in Texas but I grew up in SC, graduated from The USC and my heart has always remained in SC...One day, I hope I am as lucky as Teddy to return to SC!

Teddy, you and I will have to do some flounder gigging in PI.

It's been too long since we have seen each other.

Unless you've moved away, you can't know how much you will miss home. I lived away for about ten years and missed South Carolina every day. That was when Al Gore had just invented the internet and there were no message boards or other resources to keep up with Gamecock sports in a timely fashion. I am delighted to be able to access sites like this and to be on South Carolina soil.

Look closer, Jerry........ See? You have 20/20 vision! That's a Pawleys Island rope hammock on my porch, the curtains behind me are billowing into the house, and that's some old time John Lee Hooker bluesy beach music you hear! My 35 year old manufactured in Maine cordovan Weejuns kicked off, but ready to slip on for some cool shaggin'!

Don't forget the casting net, Badcock! There's a whole mess of shrimp in that creek. Bring your kayak too. They say paddling up the Black River is an experience you'll never forget!

Don't envy, Bionic! Man, you gotta stop by on your next trip....Did you do the lifeguard gig at Pawleys? Had my first beer at age 14 at the old Paviillion that was out over the creek. I have no idea how I survived those years. You could get your driver's license at age 14 back then and we thought we were immortal. Man, ain't NO WAY I'd have let any of my kids drive off to the beach by themselves when they were 14. Oh my Lord!
