Georgia's Coaching staff

Georgia's Coaching staff

You are on the 12 yd line with 15 seconds left and you don't spike the ball...why? Terrible play calling in those last few seconds. They could have easily run 2 more plays and could have likely scored...just needed to spike that ball. As much as I dislike the mutts, that was a bad way to lose a game...definitely one or two plays away from a National Championship game if not for poor clock management.

Great game to watch apart from that. Congrats to Bama, beat the domers!

RE: Georgia's Coaching staff

Same could be said for BAMA. End of the half should have had a TD but wasted their timeouts. Lacy's fumble at the goal line cost a TD and the INT in the endzone cost another.
The bottom line was that the better team one dispite some poor defense and stupid calls and clock management.

True on both teams. I was more surprised by Nick. He usually does not make those errors. I think Georgia gave the Tide a great game. One thing for sure, it was a true picture of SEC football. The running backs looked like run away trains. I doubt any viewers turned that game off early.

A lot of the Gamecock students left at the half.

it's on the coaches, and it's on their veteran QB who is terrible against ranked teams. Spike the ball, moron lol.

Apparently, Murray wanted to spike the ball but Richt overruled him saying we'll win it or lose it right here. Wanted to keep play going and keep the D off guard. I agree with you guys. We should have spiked the ball. Called 2 pass plays. Won the game and punched out ticket. frown

The replay clearly showed Murray running downfield to get his team lined up and motioning that he wanted to spike the ball. Then they lined up and ran a play which Alabama defended well and ended the game. More is being made of the fact that UGA did not spike but went off half cocked and then a player by instinct caught a pass which it would have been better slapping it down. However, what needs more attention is the great play Alabama made getting lined up, getting a rush on and batting that ball. It wasn't necessarily a UGA mistake as much as it was a great play by Alabama. They beat UGA at what UGA tried, give Bama credit, GA didn't give the game away, Alabama won it by defending what UGA did.

Re: Georgia's Coaching staff

Both teams made their share of mistakes and it really shouldn't have some down to the last drive.  The officiating crew seemed to be doing all they could to make sure that the mutts win.

The call where they reversed the pass interference penalty that looked like a damn bear hug by the UGA defender b/c the ball was tipped was as bad as they get.  The ball wasn't thrown pretty but the ball was never tipped.  That penalty would've made it first down for the Tide and kept the drive alive.  As it happened, the mutts blocked the field goal and took a 11 point lead.

I'm so glad to see the string of luck for the mutts end.  I haven't been that excited to see them lose in a long time!  I'm already looking forward to making it 4 in a row.

What Southern said, except their luck is holding to a certain extent. They got the higher rated bowl against a lower rated team (23)than we did (18). Our fault but still....horseshoe is still up there somewhere.

I had to read that three times before I realized what was happening.

I laughed my ass off.

This...Never seen a more mediocre team ranked this high...and now they get the biggest "bunny" in college football as a bowl opponent...Nebraska gave up 70 points in the Big Ten championship game... 70 !!! Even the over rated Aaron Murray should be able to score against them...

RE: Georgia's Coaching staff

Not a big deal but I believe that was 71 that was scored on Nebraska and yet they go to Cap 1 while 18th Michigan has to come on down to Tampa. I am glad to be playing the higher rated team hopefully the victory will be hard fought and worth something. No glory in beating Nevraska this year. I wish we could go to Texas and play TAMU, now that would be a big seller and a better trip.

Re: Georgia's Coaching staff

My opinion is that regardless of what had transpired up to that point, Georgia's coaching staff really blew the opportunity by not spiking the ball.

They could have run at least 2 plays................maybe 3.

Good grief! It was a no-brainer.

After all is said and done, it probably cost them a National Championship.

Go Tigers!!!!

The way I understood some of the comments from Spurrier and Ray Tanner, quite a bit of manipulation might have been going on in the background, both in order to secure the Outback and to have Michigan as our opponent, rather than a rematch with Nebraska and/or falling to the Gator or Chick-fil-a.  Both UGA and Texas A&M had to be pacified.  The Citrus wanted A&M, and vice versa.

It's my opinion that we've achieved the BEST that we could have, considering the numbers of deserving 10-2 teams.  I think the fact that we're playing Michigan is wonderful!  Possibly more eyeballs will be watching USC/Michigan on January 1 than will be watching UGA/NEB...Certainly more than will be watching LSU/Clemson or MissSt/Northwestern.

By the way, while I think the Gamecocks will beat Michigan in a great game, I also think that Pelini will take advantage of his opportunity for a "do-over" in Orlando against Georgia.

'Scuse me...(Oversight on my part).  I knew there were four games on Jan 1 at essentially the same time.  Got so wrapped up in the excitement that I screwed up all the participants.

My recollection of New Year's Eve's games are minimal.
