Final year at Clemson for Chad Morris?

I've heard his name mentioned on TV for a couple of head coaching jobs in the past two days.

He's certainly a guy that will be a hot commodity sooner than later. It'll be interesting to see if some jobs in Texas open up like an SMU...

dude is making over $1000000 a year....schools will have to come off serious cash to hire him away.

Only a few will be able to make it worth his while..

only BCS schools pretty much..and not all of them

There are those at Clemson who would lynch him if he left! That would be a Hanging Chad. (groan).

Clemson coaches in the past have used these rumors and threats to get big raises. Remember the rumors about Tammy Bowden to Arkansas and Kevin Steele to Tennessee? They both got good and contract extensions and then were both fired. Nice severance packages, though.

I can definitely see a school like KY or NCSU being able to put up the big bucks for an up and comer like Morris.  If stays another year I'll be surprised.  Of course Dabo may convince him to remain ALL IN!

SMU has a lot of money to offer Chad.  If TT loses Tubbs to, say, Arky, they could also go after Chad.  Even Arky, if they get turned down by other candidates, has the money to go after Chad and they love offense.

Auburn is a dumpster fire.  It will be interesting to see if they get turned down, like UT did when they had to settle for Dooley.  Morris can pick better gigs than KY, but KY will likely have to go after a up-and-coming assistant like Vandy did with Franklin.

Re: Final year at Clemson for Chad Morris?

I dont think Morris leaves with the kids he has coming back next year. A good or great year next year and he could very well be gone. I dont see him going to anywhere other than maybe a bigger BCS school. Not many schools will want to spend the 2 mil+ that it will likely take to get him.

As for those who dont think he has enough experience to be a HC. I would say combining his college experience and his HS experience I think he would be just fine. Dude is 198-47 combined as a HS head coach and college coordinator. 169-38 in HS and 28-9 as a college coach. Guy just knows how to win.

Lots of teams would come up with $2 million.  Is that his buyout or something?

2 million is probably about average now.  According to the salary list from coacheshotseat.com, 41 coaches make 2 million or more.

I don't know what his salary is nor buyout, but this day & age schools will pay for a coach if he wins. He is a good candidate for a head coaching spot soon. I hope he does leave clempsun

That's the greatest compliment a Gamecock fan can pay a Clemson coach. I agree.

I think his buyout is about 1 mil. I figure his new contract would have to be about 2 mil plus the mil buyout. I dont know how true it is but the rumor we hear is he promised his daughter that he wouldnt change jobs again until she graduates HS. Shes a sophomore this year so that doesn't seem like two big of a stretch. I know money is a great motivation tool but so is family. Might be part of the reason he turned down Urban Meyers offer last year.

hard to say "no" to a teenage daughter..

especially when money is no longer a compelling reason

Re: Final year at Clemson for Chad Morris?

Most likely his buyout will NOT apply to an opportunity to move up in the coaching ranks.  Usually buyouts are for lateral moves or worse.

Re: Final year at Clemson for Chad Morris?

I believe he is free to take a head coaching job without a buyout. It's just a matter of who comes calling. It would be hard to turn down a high profile HC job, but it would also be hard to break his word to his daughter if he told her that.

The coaching arena sometimes gets a little wild.

Quite a few schools will be looking very soon.........................which then produces a domino effect.

Very, very difficult thing to predict.
