Alot worse my friend. Femur and Patela break and all 4 ligaments. Likely career ending. I feel terrible for that young man, just not fair... HogDynasty wrote: Heard it was a dislocation of the knee.

I knew that it looked bad. My wife said it was like watching a horror movie. She wish she had not watched it.
Again prayers to Marcus, the team and family.

"gatornate" posted info that he has no clue about, because nothing has been released.
All the twitter and "news" reports should be ignored until word actually comes out from the family or the university. You are not doing Marcus, his family, his friends, the team or Gamecock nation any good by posting innuendo. This is Marcus' injury, and we will learn about it on Marcus' time.
By the way, that crappy nesn.com report going around (Who the are they, by the way?) quotes the assistant strength & conditioning coach at Florida about the extent of injuries. Really. Like he would be "in the know" just 2 hours after his own team lost in Jacksonville? Well, it's not a quote from him, but his twitter account. And that tweet has since been removed. He was the most official person quoted, and he has NO CLUE what is going on. And neither does anyone else here. Everyone just take a step back. Send your prayers, well-wishes and happy thoughts to Marcus and his family, but leave it at that.

RE: What's the Latest on Marcus's Injury?
Not to get anyone upset here but he might actually have a little bit of a clue. We lost a projected first round defensive tackle to a disclocated knee after a blind side cheap shot away from the play by an LSU player in the late 90's. That was a very serious and life threatening injury that in his case tore all the ligaments and tendons of the knee and also ruptured an artery and damaged the nerves. The team doctors moved quickly to save him but it was a career ending injury. I saw the closeup photo of Marcus and it appeared to be discloated or broken just above the knee. In our case, the university had a substantial insurance contract on the player. It took about two years but he received proceeds of $2 million. Contracts have escalated since then, if Marcus can not recover well enough to play again, he will receive a substantial financial payout. As Spurrier said in the post game, Marcus will make something of his life, regardless of whether it's on the field or not. theZero wrote: "gatornate" posted info that he has no clue about, because nothing has been released.

RE: What's the Latest on Marcus's Injury?
At this point, about the only thing they could know about is broken bone(s) via an xray. Ligament and cartilage damage can't be assessed until they do an MRI. MRIs are simply not done on a day's notice. In fact, they have to wait until the swelling goes down in order to get the best results on an MRI. So, it may be a week or so before they will know. That said, I'm not a doctor. This is just based on years of following sports and experience with my own injuries over the years.

I cannot speak for the speed of an MRI under all given circumstances, but it usually is a process; swelling is a major factor that would hinder the quality of an MRI. I think at this point we all just wait for something to come out that is 'official'. There is a lot of emotion around this issue. I have seen nothing to suggest that anyone means harm/insult yet that has come to this site to share their thoughts and prayers. Emotion is high around this, it certainly is for me.

RE: What's the Latest on Marcus's Injury?
The injury looked very bad. An MRI can be done on a knee in about 15-30 minutes and does not need to be done hours after an injury. The MDs knew his status within 2-3 hours of the injury.

Re: What's the Latest on Marcus's Injury?
I just wish people would stop the speculation. Yes, it looked devastating, and maybe it is. But until the doctors can accurately determine the extent of the injury, we should ALL just keep our mouths shut and pray for ML and his family.

People are posting information as fact, but the truth is that the lowest type of scum are posting unsubstantiated medical updates on unknown "news" sites so they can make a quick bucks on Marcus Lattimore's injury. They don't give a crap about Marcus, his family, his team, the University or the fans. We all know it's bad, and our speculation doesn't help Marcus, so what good does it do? All we can do is pray and wait.

RE: What's the Latest on Marcus's Injury?
I am glad he has the insurance policy if needed. If he cannot play again I think he has a lot of potential to do well outside of playing football. He can get his degree, I am sure our Alumni in SC will provide him with job opportunities. I am sure he will have opportunities to coach football if he is interested in that type of career.
I hope he can come back but his life is far from over if he cannot.

I feel awful for Lattimore. That kid's a class act, a good guy, and a world class player.
If there is a silver lining to this awful cloud, today's medical procedures are significantly better than what they were back when Napoleon Macallum had a similarly gruesome injury 16 years ago. Coupled with the fact that Lattimore isn't the type that gives up, and physical therapy is also more advanced than before.

The Andrew's Institute here in Pensacola is one of the best at "sports" medicine and their specialty is joint and bone problems. You folks would be amazed at the number of great athletes, pro and college, they have "put back together"! I hope Carolina gets him to such a physician as Dr. Andrews.

Re: What's the Latest on Marcus's Injury?
Guys, not trying to intrude, but this ESPN report says dislocated knee. I think it's a recent report. That sounds better to me especially after some of the early reports. Still saying prayers for his recovery. Just always seems like a fine young man. http://m.espn.go.com/ncf/story?storyId=8564561South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said Sunday that star running back Marcus Lattimore dislocated his right knee during Saturday's victory against Tennessee and the injury is something he can come back from to play football again. Spurrier visited Lattimore on Sunday and said the junior had a good attitude about his condition. Spurrier said South Carolina team doctor Jeffrey Guy was able to put Lattimore's knee back in place soon after he was taken from the field to the hospital. Spurrier said the injury was significant, but discounted speculation Lattimore would never play football again. Lattimore has not used a redshirt season so he could take as long as necessary to recover and still return to the Gamecocks for the 2014 season. "We're optimistic his football days are still ahead of him," Spurrier said. "There is a history of guys coming back from this."

Re: What's the Latest on Marcus's Injury?
There are those who are trolling on this tragic injury for hits, and they should be ashamed. But 99% out there are offering prayers and true compassion. It seems all of college football and professional football are touched by this, and it is a beautiful thing to see. It is heartwarming to see great character recognized and the person of Marcus loved at such a heartbreaking time. For that reason alone, Zero's advice should be heeded.

Dont confuse dislocated knee with dislocated shoulder.. its a very serious imjury if that is what it is, and if so, will be quite likely affecting him the rest of his life... regardless, it is good to see so many diverse fan bases come together over what has happened to this fine man
