Landry Jones top passing QB?????

Are Landry Jones' stats that much better than Weedens?   The Tulsa World reported that Jones won the Sammy Baugh award for best passing QB.

Re: Landry Jones top passing QB?????

Weeden threw for 32 tds and 13 inteceptions and Landry threw for 35 tds and 11 intereceptions.  Landry played 1 more game so the stats are basically even except for Weeden having a couple of more turnovers.   Pretty even for the most part.

Re: Landry Jones top passing QB?????

somebody needs to determine how many yards laundry wound up with when he actually threw the ball about 5 yards and broyles and murray did the rest

the majority of weeden's YAC came because he made perfect throws down the field that hit receivers in stride

i am so out on laundry jones ... the hype makes me ill
proud and immortal

What hype?  The productivity's there, Ump.  I know we don't like it, but he DID lead his team to the conference championship, while putting up passing numbers as good as BW's.  Gotta count for something.

Re: Landry Jones top passing QB?????

Both of these QB's had outstanding seasons.  Who wins what awards is mostly based on who is issuing the awards.  Jones will probably get more national recognitions because of playing for OU.  Weeden will probably, and has, get more recognition form the Big 12 programs because these people see what he has done on a much closer level than the national people.

I think what Ump is saying (and it's the way I feel as well) is that Jones is more a product of the system than Weeden is.  Jones throws a ton of bubble screens & swing passes that are near the line of scrimmage & counts on his receivers to get YAC.  Thus, less opportunities to throw INTs.  Weeden throws the ball down the field more than Jones, thus more opportunities for INTs.  If you watch the two QBs make all the throws (deep outs, long balls, etc), I think you'll come away more impressed with Weeden.

Re: Landry Jones top passing QB?????

the problem I have with it is not the Weeden comparison, (although I do think Brandon is a better quarterback)...

but this is a NATIONAL award, or supposed to be, although to be honest I can't remember ever noticing that they hand it out...
a NATIONAL AWARD

and then you see that there are 26 guys better them Jones....

it's a joke
but, really like I said, it's not the HEISMAN, not the O'Brien...

seriously, it a Columbus Ohio men's club, it's like the local Knights of Columbus is tossing out awards
it doesn't matter, it's nothing
my guess, since it's an Ohio men's club-they're hoping Stoops will attend the banquet with Landry

It's hard to underthrow for Landry Jones when his passes cover 5 Yards!
OU wide receiver Justin Blackmon
OSU wide receiver Justin Blackmon

Biggest joke award given.  Half of the ou fans are wanting another QB to take his place, he is the worst QB in the BIG XII under pressure

Seriously?  Who's NOT a product of their respective system?

BW's got the better, NFL-caliber arm, no doubt.  We throw ALOT of short passes, too, though.

I agree w/SFN, though, how a national award is given to him over all those other guys is inexplicalbe, except for some stupid rules that most of these awards have.

Re: Landry Jones top passing QB?????

The difference between Jones and Weeden in an award like this is that OU won the Big 12 Championship, oSu did not.  We had our chance.

Jones has everything Weeden does.  NFL arm, good vision, good decision making, can make all the throws and is a leader on the field.  In the end, he will prove to be a better QB.
