Gun control

How much money will it take to search every home to remove all guns from the people? It's coming.
There are millions of unregistered guns out there and this first step is just that, a first step.
I don't own an assualt weapon or even a pistol. I do own a shotgun and a rifle. I have always been a law abiding citizen. If the time comes when the government asks for those to be turned in, i will become an unlawful citizen.
One city offered a fifty dollar gift card to anyone turning in a working gun. 69 law abiding citizens turned in their guns and it was hailed as a great victory. Unbelievable!

Re: Gun control

I am the registered owner of several firearms.  My kids have them all and I find myself without a single gun in my house at this time.  I plan to remedy this situation right away.  The new guns won't be registered I assure you. I don't hunt much but I need something to shoot varmits (skunks, coons, coyotes, snakes, bigfoot ect...) with. I live about 12 miles from the nearest town and a few years ago there was a knock on my door about 1am. Long story short, guy hopped up on dope, stolen pick-up wrecked, and 357 mag.. My shotgun convinced him that he would find greener pastures elsewhere.

I still can't see them coming to my house with a search warrent to confiscate my guns.  Just don't see it happening.  Might be wrong.  Is Obama an idiot?  Yes.  He can't win this one though in my opinion.  There is just simply no way in hell we are giving up our guns.  The easiest way for them to get what they want is to make the ammo so expensive and scarce that we won't be able to load our guns.

Re: Gun control

The government most certainly can confiscate ones fire arms. They did so in N.Y. city and recently in Louisiana after Katrina where the police held citizens at gun point while searching through their belongings.

Re: Gun control

They aren't going to come to our homes and take our guns. They are going to force gun owners to give up by implementing outrageous federal sales taxes on guns purchased, and penalize people that own guns previously purchased or handed down by implementing a outrageous federal sales tax on ammo. Couple that with forcing retailers to keep track of the endless paperwork to file quarterly regarding ammo purchases, driving out retailers like walmart and leave less competition in that market meaning higher prices. This will entice casual gun owners or those that maybe inherited a firearm from someone to sell it at a big government gun buyback because it will be illegal to sell a gun to a buddy or private citizen. Sportsmen and target shooters will cut back on ammo purchases because the cost will be too high to buy it. This may take 10 years to implement, but it will happen.

Re: Gun control

There have been no proposals to confiscate guns.

However, what no one wants to talk about is actual crime statistics. It is s trade off. Most of the industrialized world has a much lower murder rate than the US. The difference in murder rate is almost equal to the number of US murders with firearms. If our rate was the same as Great Britain or France it would save about 11,000 lives per year.

However the violent crime rate in other countries is much higher. If we had the same violent crime rate as the most restrictive gun nations like the UK or Australia then there would be about 4,000,000 crimes per year. Even compared to low violence nations like France, we would see a six figure rise in violent crime annually if our rate equalled theirs.

Save some lives but create significantly more victims that don't die.

None of this accounts for the fact that crime has fallen by 50% in the US over the past 20 years. Nor does it pay attention that scary assault weapons only account for a few hundred deaths per year.

Try convincing my brother-in-law in New York that Governor Cuomo was only kidding then.

There is no question in my mind that the continued passage of gun control laws will include confiscation someday.

New York's Gov. Andrew Cuomo said this afternoon that he'd like the state's legislature to consider all options in debating new gun control measures, including "confiscation" of "assault" weapons or "mandatory sales to the state" and "permitting."

For those that don’t live in New York, it may be hard to understand the situation we’ve been living with for the past 20 years when it comes to gun ownership, so allow me a minute to spell out what New Yorkers have endured since 1994.

I kinda got that, but my point is that it is out there on the "gun control" advocates wish list.   And the Feds have no doubt discussed this behind closed doors.  I think it will probably not happen, but don't steel yourself against the idea it can't.

Re: Gun control

When this administration makes this big a smoke screen to get the nation focused on one thing, you can bet they are doing something else that is worse. At present they are stealing federal employees retirement funds to pay for social security. The tax hike isn't enough to pay for all the entitlement programs. Of course SSI wasn't an entitlement program before, Johnsom, Carter and Clinton put it in the general fund where it was quickly wasted like any tax money. If some think there is still tons of money in the SSI fund, then why is it now called an entitlement program that has to be saved? The GOP wants to make changes to save SSI, raise the age to draw it for one, the libs want to tax and steal to save it. So now they are stealing from federal retirement funds just as they stole from SSI in the first place.
What happens when there is nothing lsft to steal? Easy answer, no one has anything.
This administration thinks just because the government prints the money, it all belongs to them.  Oh well, they can always blame Bush and that half the people that can be fooled all the time will believe it.
