We should be RANKED after Week 1

With that showing....we did a hell of a lot better than many of the ranked teams!

Power index rank on ESPN = 18th! Off the strength of that lose. FSU still number 1 in power ranking... OU drops...11th.

Re: We should be RANKED after Week 1

I'm a little torn on the ranking deal.  On the one side I think we might benefit from not being ranked and having the "chip on the shoulder" attitude we showed Saturday night.  On the other side, for any shot at being in the final four being ranked early  makes it easier and more likely that the Pokes would move into the discussion if they can win the big games at the end of the season.

Re: We should be RANKED after Week 1

Well one thing is for sure Washington should not be ranked after only winning by one point to the Rainbows! We just need to win 7 in a row and think about it then. We need to improve each week and be 7-1 going to KSU. Those are my expectations now..

Re: We should be RANKED after Week 1

Number 25, Washington, had 130 points.

Unranked (Number 33), Oklahoma State, had 37 points.

Top 25 Teams that lost in the first week:

#9 South Carolina
#14 Wisconsin
#16 Clemson
#25 Washington's win probably felt like a loss.

oSu will not move into the top 25 just yet.

South Carolina will be the only one loss team in the Top 25.

Re: We should be RANKED after Week 1

We'll know soon, but I would be surprised if we're ranked. Most voters seem reluctant to move a team up after a loss, regardless of circumstances. But if nothing else, we showed we're clearly one of the 25 best teams, so I expect we'll move in easily once we have a win or two. My guess is we'll at least be ranked after UTSA.

Re: We should be RANKED after Week 1

We should be ranked in the top15.  We played the defending national champion with a returning Heisman winner to within 6 points on a neutral field.  WE had many questions before the game that were answered.  If we are still unranked, that means that 24 teams could have done better than us against FSU in the same circumstance.  I don't think we have proven enough to be top 10, but we played well enough-particularly on defense-to be in the top 15.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Yeah we played really well against a highly ranked team, but we still lost.  We are 0-1.  We won't move ahead of many, if any, teams that were already ranked above us and  won their first game.

Anyone know what time the polls come out today?

Until then, here's Sagarin's first week of rankings (OSU at #23):

AP Poll will be out at 1:00 pm CDT.

For those that live in Kenton, Okla., the time will be 12.00 pm MT.

Looking West out of Kenton, Okla. into New Mexico.

It could happen, but I doubt we are ranked this week. It would be great if it happens though.

USA Today Sports (not the Coach's Poll) moved OSU up to #42 from #50...  What absolute ignoramuses.

Re: We should be RANKED after Week 1

It is ridiculous that the Pokes aren't at least in the top 15 after that performance.  It's silly they weren't there to begin with frankly.  I could see maybe 25th with the lack of experience returning.  Having said, it's not like the talent returning was glum and it's not like Gundy and co haven't been solid in recruiting evaluation for years. More so, isn't it ultimately about performance?  Didn't they perform on a level only one other team had against the Seminoles in their last 29 games? Why did this game have no value?

The Cowboys are among the elite in wins. Since 08 they are top 10.  Since 2000  23rd in wins.  That's pretty consistent growth in the last 15 years. 8 bowl games in a row.  Very respectable.  Yet that is exactly what it seems the Cowboys are lacking from the prognosticators that control the sports accolades, respect.  Any blueblood would vault to the top ten with the kind of performance a sloppy OSU put up against FSU last Saturday. The Pokes are still outside looking in, a clear sign they do not have a seat at the table just yet.

I think we all need to pump the brakes on demanding being ranked. Moral victories don't go far in sports. Let's try to string several wins together before we start the complaints.

Agreed.  If OSU was ranked and passed by a team that lost their first game there would be pitch forks and tar and feathering going on here.  Some folks just aren't too realistic around here sometimes.
