Re: New Tulsa Football Series

I tend to lose track of our future non-con schedules because they're usually years away, & some get cancelled then along the way.

Looking ahead, though, our non-con flat out sucks in future years.  Talk about no marquee opponents to bring into BPS, wow.  We'll see how Boise sustains after Peterson's departure, & Pitt's a name, I guess, but otherwise, yikes!

None of them are too good, but next year is ugly.

Re: New Tulsa Football Series

I'm trying to recall the series that have been cancelled, & no doubt, others will remember it better.  Off the top of my head, though, Clemson, Air Force & Purdue.  I guess you could say Tulsa is as good as Air Force, & Pitt vs. Purdue is a wash.

It'll be interesting to see how these future non-cons hold up in the face of the playoff committee.

Always glad to see the Pokes play Tulsa.  Just hope we don't have another of those weird games like the last one.

Re: New Tulsa Football Series

I wonder where the basketball game in Tulsa wil be played.....BOK or Reynolds center on campus.  Wasn't the last series at the BOK.  Hope that is true this time.  Would be hard to get a ticket if it is at the much smaller Reynolds center.

I agree the future home schedules suck! Looks like Holder is making Gundy happy!

The last game in Tulsa was at the BOK, but we played on campus two years before that.

Dave Martin does the football schedule with input from Holder.

I sure wish the Cowboys could get a series going with the Razorbacks.

I also would like to see some home and homes with Rice and SMU.

Looks like Gundy won the "argument" with Holder...bangheadbangheadbangheadwink  We need to upset FSU in 30 days if we ever want to see a good non-conference schedule again...wow those games (sans Pitt which really has little local interest anyway) suck!

Re: New Tulsa Football Series

I like scheduling a series with TU.  This series has a long history and it stirs up more interest than most OOC games.  The Hurricanes are a better opponent than most of our OOC foes, and the Tulsa stadium will be half-filled with oSu fans.

I'm actually uncertain about our approach to OOC scheduling.  I personally love the excitement of having a Georgia game, and I've never felt like it was good for the team or worth what the fans pay for tickets when we  play the likes of Central Arkansas, Louisiana Monroe, etc.  I think games with Miss St. and FSU would be much, much better for the program if they were home and home.  But the ratings game is what it is, our conference games give us an overall strong schedule, and I certainly understand how Mike Gundy prefers to start the season..

I really like Gundy's philosophy on scheduling.   Just make sure you can win all your non-conference games and then win the Conference and you're in an excellent position to make the final four.   Opening with FSU is not a good way to kick the season off.

That is 100% FALSE.

With a weak non-con schedule you need to go UNDEFEATED in Conference, not just win the Conference.
You're putting all your eggs in the 9-0 Conference record.

How many Big 12 teams over the years have gone undefeated in Conference play ?

A strong non-con schedule will help to make up for a slip up in Conference play.

Re: New Tulsa Football Series

Looks to me like the OOC scheduling is:
1) Line up decent future opponents (UCMich,Pitt) where you can
2) Then try to land the early season marque games (Dallas, Houston, ...)

Gundy has little to nothing to do with scheduling. Rest assured Holder would sign up the team to play Bama, Oregon, and Ohio State, on the road, all in the same year if would help pay the bills.

These early season "Classics" have bowl level payouts AND we don't have to share with the Big 12 office. At least that's my understanding.
