OSU football under investigation

OSU football under investigation

the NCAA is basing the investigation on the SI report so probably won't go anywhere, but still was hoping this would be over by now.

THIS...WE started the NCAA investiagtion ourselves and requested them to join Smrt in the process.  I have confidence that this is because we have nothing to hide.

But sad that our own Brett Murphy was the one tweeting about it !

It is old news, and OSU is the one that INVITED the NCAA, but Brett doesn't need to tweet about it w/o some qualifers (like this sentence) or it only does harm.

The story is actually pretty good and points out SI's fact failures.

I was pleasantly surprised by the article -- hard to imagine how the "story" could be presented in a light more favorable for OSU.

R. Allen on the Franchise saying the school is finally officially commenting on the investigation so its a slight twist on an old story. The report is apparently coming soon. RA hints there is nothing earth shattering...

"nothing earth shattering" the question is what does that mean?

At some point it is going to go out into the public...that's part of the process of getting it over with.

I talked to some relatives from Missouri (MU fans) today and they were kind of gloating as they had seen the news reports, so yeah it's out there.  It was no use trying to explain beyond the headlines.  Let's get this thing done!!

Re: OSU football under investigation

100% guarantee OSU will get penalized.  It will likely be for absolutely nothing too.  The NCAA screws OSU every chance they get.  Case in point, an article series that is a total hack job inspires an investigation.  A paper trail of checks to Alabama players with substantial evidence  behind it does not inspire an investigation and the case is closed.  Here OSU is getting national news stories announcing the investigation that's been ongoing nearly a year after the hack job was published and summarily dismissed.  That in and of it self is a penalty.  Teams have been able to use the trumped up stories with no basis in fact as well as the subsequent investigation as a recruiting tool against us.  Again, punishment.  A school with blue blood has an answer in weeks.  OSU.....let it linger.  College football is a very corrupt organization for the benefit of the few. I admire Gundy for sticking around knowing how much organized resistance there is against the program.  Too bad, They had accomplished so much.

I don't think we know anything yet...at all...I think it's encouraging that Talley is suing SI for defamation.   I think the school believes that we have been running an above board program and that's why they started their own investigation so quickly.   HOWEVER, having been thorough this before,  I agree with your sentiment. But it's too early to proclaim anything.  If we get substantial penalties from the ncaa, other programs are going to have to watch out for "reporters" on witch hunts which IMHO is completely bogus...and I think those witch hunts may need to start with our friends to the south should this be a major penalty.  Just can't see why the ncaa would want these types of media sponsored witch hunts to continue.  It's altogether possible that this could be a vindication due to our prompt action and quick investigation looking for real facts in the garbage that was "the dirty game."

First off I don't think the series inspired an investigation.  Maybe it would have, who knows.  We asked the NCAA to come in and jointly be a part of the process along with the people we hired to do the internal investigation.  To be honest I think if there are penalties they will be pretty small and of minor infractions.

Secondly I can't tell that this situation hindered our recruiting last year and I can't tell that it has hurt is any so far for this upcoming class.

Gary-
The SI crap didn't "inspire" an investigation, it forced us to spend $200,000 +/- on a completely unwarranted investigation. We wouldn't have done that without the slanderous article written by a u0 fan "writer"
We would have had to spend that cash, our name would not have been in negative news for almost a year
We could have used that money elsewhetre

I don't know for a fact, but I will say, if a competitor did not mention to recruits that we were "under investigation",
They screwed up on the performance of their job

Re: OSU football under investigation

I didn't like the headline because it in itself, was misleading and intended for maximum attention

When a more accurate headline would have been
"Oklahoma State, in conjunction with the NCAA, is nearing the end of an internal inquiry into allegations erroneously reported by Sports Illustrated"
NOT

"Under Investigation"

But, I understand the media's need to shock and sell

That is correct.  You can't tell.

Anytime a program is being investigated, opposing schools are using that information in the recruiting process.  This sham article has now affected two classes as a result of NCAA dragging their feet. I'm guessing investigation will be over in late Feb.

Re: OSU football under investigation

Exactly.  The title was intentionally misleading for the purposes of harming OSU.  This is all too common.  Kids don't read articles but they read headlines.  This is punitive.

The Alabama incident is NOT CLOSED by the NCAA.   They are first letting the State pursue the matter as a violation of State Law.  (since the State has subpoena power)

For anything to happen, the NCAA will have to prove that Alabama was aware of Fluker taking improper benefits to show a “lack of institutional control.” Nowhere in the Yahoo report was it alleged that the University was aware of Fluker taking money, and the agencies that provided the benefits are in no way connected to the university.

As for OSU, the school is required to self report.  The NCAA does not have to launch an investigation, but OSU is required to respond to allegations such as these in printed in the media.  In our case, we invited the NCAA to observe our internal investigation.   If OSU had not investigated the allegations, then the NCAA would likely investigate, and would certainly penalize OSU for not performing an internal investigation.

I would expect, at worst, that OSU may be subject to some minor secondary violations; however, any penalty would be minimal or waived.  We report secondary violations all the time.
