BYU's Mendenhall wants in the B12

BYU's Mendenhall wants in the B12

BYU is finding itself in a mess with the path big time football is taking.  Maybe if they would have been a bit more cooperative and less demanding it might have happened.

I'm sure he does. Those Friday night match ups against San Jose State and Idaho are probably fairly tough to sell to recruits.

Re: BYU's Mendenhall wants in the B12

Tell BYU if they could get Notre Dame to join the Big 12 with them that would be a completely different thing.

BYU and ND together, now that's some real worldwide church appeal. biggrin

Maybe Texas would give up their TV marriage with ESPN and we could have the best conference TV money coming in of any conference.

How much money does BYU and ND make each on their football TV money?

BYU is getting about $10 million annually  from ESPN to broadcast all their home games and many of its road games.

Notre Dame schedule requires them to play 5 ACC teams annually and they intend to continue to play Navy, Stanford and USC forever. Michigan and Michigan annually are now off the table.  They are therefore in much better shape in scheduling than BYU.

NBC and Notre Dame said the extension would begin in 2016 and run through the 2025 season. The contract, reportedly worth $15 million annually for football, had never run for more than five years.

It would be an intersting league if you added the Catholics and Mormans to a conferencde that already has The Deciples of Christ and Babtists in it.  You could develop some real intense interdenominational rivalries.   May need to change the name of the Big XII to something more religious!

If big time football looks to move on without BYU, it will be interesting to see if their demands and dictates moderate in order to get into a conference. In reality, the B12 is their only hope, so it seems the B12 would be holding all the cards. Agree to our terms, or ride the waves to irrelevance in the grand scheme of the football playoffs.

UConn and South Florida join BYU on the outside looking in.

Unfortunately I think the demands would return once they had gotten the invite.  I just don't think they'd be a good partner.

Also, the fact we pulled in WVU makes a BYU move not good geographically.  While they are fine, UCF, UConn, etc... have the same profile, more upside, and don't come with the baggage.

Seriously guys.... not playing baseball on two Sundays a year is a problem for OSU?  We're only really taking about Baseball anyway, aren't we?   We seldom play Sunday games in FB, or basketball.

BYU series = Friday game; and double header on Sat.    Seriously it would kill OSU to play 2 double headers a year?

or, you could make the away games @BYU Thurs,Fri,Sat, and not affect our attendance at all.

Probably not, but it's a convenient excuse to not invite a school nobody really wants.

They could have been in the BIG 12. They overplayed their hand and now they have to deal with it.

That wasn't the point of my post CC
my point was-

you don't allow the beggars to dictate terms
anyone who comes in, comes in as a full member
every sport, normal schedule

no exceptions

It's funny that the Big 12 is the worst of the big five conferences and we have people acting like we are too good for other big programs that might be interested.

We should be doing everything we can if a program like BYU actually wants to join our conference.

It's not that we are too good for them, it's that they burned the bridge the last time we were looking for a team.

Re: BYU's Mendenhall wants in the B12

Can't understand why a conference wouldn't at least take a serious look at a school that has 11k more students than any university in Oklahoma, a stadium that would be the conference's third largest, impeccable ethical standards, has won a football national championship, and has a national following that is several times larger than Oklahoma's population.

The drawbacks are Sunday play (Mormons clinging to their outdated religious beliefs) and travel.  Hey, if you can find your way to Morgantown, I imagine your travel agent could also get you to Provo.
