Weak Effort Last Night

Weak Effort Last Night

We looked like the visiting team last night. We better show up with some energy against their ace or it will be a short super regional. Our fans need to pick it up too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Weak Effort Last Night

This team has heart and I look for them to perform well tonight.  While I am disappointed they lost, I was very impressed by the UCI pitcher, Elliot Surrey, and more impressed by his personal story and what he has been through during the past year.  Amazingly poised young man to be there for his team and for his family after his mother's passing in February.  All as a 20 year old.

Win or lose. I love this scrappy bunch of kids. We don't see teams like this one often. And it's the kids first and formost. It's good coaching but it's the men playing more then anything.

I see it just the opposite way than you.

We looked like the home team trying too hard to win.   We looked like a bunch of freshmen (which just happens to be what we truly are) that just stepped out on the big stage.

Nerves.   Last night was nerves.

Our guys need to tune-out the home crowd.   concentrate on seeing the ball.  Concentrate on each pitch hitting and fielding.   Just plain Concentrate.

They need to relax.

Last night's nerves might not be back tonight, but most unfortunately Cal-Irvine's ACE PITCHER is pitching tonight.

We'll need a lot less adrenaline, and a lot more poise to win tonight.

I am not skeered of a uci ace. Probably smart on the uci part coming with a Maddox type when we are clench jawed and ready to compete. I see real possibility of this kid over throwing and the pokes knocking the kid out by the 4th.

Re: Weak Effort Last Night

In the regional, Morales pitched 4.1 innings in his last start, vs the Beavers. It was on short rest - he pitched 7 innings, giving up 4 runs, vs UNLV in the opener.

He kinda looked like he whistling past the grave yard last night in the dugout. He isn't pitching for uci now he is property of St. Louis

Not sure what game you were at, but the fans were excellent. Tough to get into it when you see walks and errors and fall behind 8-1. The crowd was excellent and certainly came to life late when mini rally started and the Pokes hit into the inning ending double play.

As far as effort................tell me what you mean by nuch much effort???  I always like ot hear this from clowns who think becuase th team didnt win, they didnt put forth much effort. The UCI pitcher was excellent. Many offspeed pitches and excellent ball movement.

These kids play hard....lack of "effort" was not part of the problem.

+1

Last night was a clunker.   It happens.    Diminishes none of what this team has done and hopefully will do.

I agree. Hopefully the coaches ripped them a little bit. I was disappointed. You have a full house for the first time since Inky and Fariss were in town. And the egg was laid. We will win tonight. And we are going to the CWS.

Re: Weak Effort Last Night

no effort tonight at the plate.  Looked like the worst hitting team in baseball.

congrats to UCI,  they are a much much much much much much much much much better baseball team than us.

the best in the Big 12 are in the CWS or up 1-0 in Supers.

You just showed how clueless you are. We ran into a hot team playing with nothing to lose. They were a horrible matchup for us. Their pitchers throw a lot of off speed and junk. We have struggled against that all year.

We beat UT 4 of 6 so your comment about "the best" in the Big 12 are in the CWS or up 1-0 in the Supers is bush league.

We drew a tough matchup.

I'm sure there was plenty of effort.

We looked bad in hitting for two reasons:

#1.  We're not the best hitting team in the nation, for sure.  We're probably in the bottom 1/2 of the 16 teams in the Super Regional.

#2.  We faced an Ace of a pitcher.   St. Louis Cardinals, my team, just picked him a couple of days ago in a high pick.

I remember when I went to the CWS to follow OSU in the 1980's.

We lost the National Championship game to "Black Jack" McDowell of Stanford.  He did throw several years in MLB and was considered pretty darn good major league pitcher if you know anything.

We lost 5-4 one year to Roger Clemons, of Texas, one year (1985 I think).
I think you should know about how great he turned out to be.  One of the best MLB pitchers ever.

In the CWS, you find the Roger Clemon's and "Black Jack" McDowell type pitchers.  Those type of guys can beat you 1-0.   That's not something to be ashamed of.

We just faced one too early in this Super.  It was a bad draw for us.  That's life.

We had effort.   We just got beat.   Barely.

They're not that many "much's" better than us.

Isn't Morales something like 20 - 1 in his 2 years at UCI?

Well Jim you caught me taking some liberties, for sure.

The DOK had a 1/2 page coverage on their front sports page of OSU baseball on Friday, June 6.

It was titled "COWBOYS GROWING UP".........and was sub-titled this:

"Freshmen have assumed Major roles for OSU - especially on the mound"

The great article had 4 pictures of OSu freshmen hurlers.   And it was a very long read also.

Great article by John Helsely.

That's what I was referring to.  But yow, I did take a little too much liberties in my parenthetical statement.

We played like Freshmen last night.  We played much better tonight.  Just couldn't hit a future major leaguer, that's all.   No shame in losing just 1 game 1-0 to an ace pitcher.

It happens.

I think it's more their lack of understanding about the game of baseball.  With some of these comments made, you'd think we were talking and playing football.

And floating.
