Hey Jenni - What a Mess - Jackie Shipp
Maybe it was a miscommunication. Whatever it was, it's a mess now.

Give Jenni some credit. She used to weigh about 485 pounds. Looks like she has lost at least 30

Re: Hey Jenni - What a Mess - Jackie Shipp
Great story for the Oklahoman. It put ou on the front page and OSU playing for first place on the back page. Oh and by the way, what OSU coaches make is important also and Mizell, it works this way, the longer the tenure, the more you make. It's not about being young, it's about being able to do the job. Do the job well and get a raise. What a novel idea. If anyone at the Oklahoman got a raise this year, they are even more overpaid.

Bobbie is cleaning house. Patton was forced out, now Shipp and Kittle. He must be feeling some pressure to make these types of sweeping changes. It will be interesting to see how the DOK handles this.

I'm still wondering what happened to the big story of Nepotism at ou with their last DC being forced out Dont believe Venebrels was given a "YEAR" in advance notice either

This is also what Mack has done over the last several years. He started to get some heat from alums and made wholesale changes with his staff, including his 2 best friends, who ran his off. and def.

Amazing! Before all of this broke the goofy boomer fans claimed that ou had the greatest staff in the nation. When Hale talked to new recurits he always started out by saying wasn't it wonderful to visit with the greatest coaching staff in America while you visited at OKLAHOMA. Then of course he would go on saying wasn't it great to tour the greatest football facilities in the nation. And of course you know how the men would answer.

Re: Hey Jenni - What a Mess - Jackie Shipp
What wows me is how they were all over our coaching changes from prior to our bowl game all the way through recruiting season. But OPUBCOs ace sports reporters couldn't come up with a sniff of a story on the Sooner football staff turmoil until now. (Truthfully, I'm confident they've known about some of this for sometime but would only talk about it cryptically until signing season was over. And even at that, it is being reported as an after-the-fact story.)
To me, there are two reasons for it. One, in general, sports reporters in the state of Oklahoma are fearful to ask challenging questions to Bob Stoops, and if they work up the courage to do so they are more than satisfied with his answer -- no matter how worthless it is -- without follow up (the one Tulsa World reporter being the exception). They call it respect, I call it fear. And, two, there is a long history of protecting what they perceive to be their golden goose. To Traber's credit, when John Blake was stinking it up in Norman in the late '90s, Traber was the only OKC sports media personality challenging Blake's abilities. He took major heat from callers, fellow on-air personalities and, I would imagine, some management at The Animal.

Its all Gundy's fault.
The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.

Re: Hey Jenni - What a Mess - Jackie Shipp
ou is looking back and something is gaining on them. ou and Texas are letting some fans and the media guide their ship and it isn't going to work. OSU among others are going to continue to gain on them. That said, I wonder how much effect the fans had on Young's dismissal? The continual harping about the defense couldn't have helped. Did Young's health problem scare Gundy? Did recruiting play a part? Who recruited the 3 DTs and the 3 DEs? Did Gundy interfere with defensive decisions? These are questions that the paper didn't address in The Mess article.

I think it had a lot more to do with Coach Gundy watching Texas and Oklahoma march down the field with less than two minutes left in the game and costing OSU two games they should of won.

Considering that Young said that he knew this was his last year prior to the season starting I don't think your point is in any way valid to his dismissal.

I have never read or heard one thing about Coach Young saying this was going to be his last year. I did read after he was let go that he wanted to continue to Coach, I really think you are mistaken. The fact is he was fired and did not leave by choice.

Re: Hey Jenni - What a Mess - Jackie Shipp
KP, the most interesting thing I read in Hoover's article was:
"But some of that bad run can be traced back to the evolution of the Big 12 Conference to a passing league. No Big 12 team signs major league defensive tackle prospects any more. They all go to the Southeastern Conference, it seems."
I know a lot of our fans gnash their teeth over the Cowboys not being able to recruit a big time DT, but it appears that none of the other Big 12 teams can either due to the nature of Big 12 offenses.

Hardcore is correct, and Young said the same. It was decided by Gundy a year prior that 2012 was to be Young's last season when his contract expired. So in actuality, Young wasn't fired, but rather didn't have his contract renewed. I know the practical implication, but his contract simply wasn't re-upped. Gundy and Young discussed this situation about the non-renewal in 2011, but Young asked that it not be made known until he found another job after the 2012 season. Somehow though, it was leaked before that occurred.
