What's not to like about this hire of a rising star.

Re: NEW OC Hire

I went with cautiously optimistic. Gundy has a great track record with this, and the guy produced as much as he possibly could at the level he was at. The caution comes from the fact that it is indeed a big jump, and I wonder about his recruiting; I imagine at D2, he was mostly mining guys that missed out on bigger opportunities, which itself surely requires a good eye for talent and how to maximize someone's potential. But it's still a far cry from regularly going up against OU, Texas, Georgia, etc. for highly touted prospects. Looking forward to seeing him prove himself though. He'll have a lot to work with.

My opinion not part of the poll.

Know noting about the guy, but trust Gundy when it comes to OC hires.  If he is good enough for Gundy then I will believe it until proven otherwise.

RE: NEW OC Hire

I too went with Cautiously optimistic. My only concern is he will be thrown right into the fire against a $EC defense. I also am a little concerned about recruiting between now and October. Not a lot for a recruit to go on now as they havent seen his offense and he doesnt have the DI or NFL pedigree our previous OC's have had.

Wait and see for me

Thin, thin resume

I can't imagine the nervousness he could well have calling a game from Reliant Stadium in his debut FBS performance against Mississippi State

Monken was a NFL QB coach. I wouldnt say he was a out of the box hire like this one. All he had to do is walk into a house and say, I coached in the NFL and a recruit would listen. Our new OC is going to walk in and say the only place Ive coached that you have heard of is Indiana...

What's not to like?  How about when the chips were down against Indiana PA in their conference title game his vaunted offense scored 10 points?  Or, in the Division II playoffs against Winston-Salem State his vaunted offense scored 7 points?  Their other TD that game was an INT return.  They were held under 300 yards Total Offense both those games.

I am not quite ready to deem this guy a 'rising star'.

OK, just hope he is a 'rising star'.

A WR and QB coach from Jacksonville didn't seem to high of an accolade at the time.

Re: NEW OC Hire

Gundy has hired three OCs that are now head coaches. Some still doubt he knows what he is doing.
Gundy recruited well enough to win a Big-12 title. Some still whine about recruiting.
About the only thing left for Gundy to do is supply some cheese to go with the whine.

There is a difference between whining and being perplexed...

Coordinator 1: worked with Gundy before and led the Florida Gators to the #1 offense in the SEC

Coordinator 2: Studied under Leach and was a HC at a FBS team & beat his team thoroughly

Coordinator 3: Worked with Gundy before, had several FBS posts and coached in the NFL for three years

I trust Gundy, but this is a far cry from the system of hiring that produced excellent results thus far

As long as coach Wick is around we'll be alight on offense.

Re: NEW OC Hire

I didn't really like the options on the poll...

Monken was OC at a Div1-AA school, is that really so much different than DII?

I went with cautiously optimistic also...I believe he could be a chip kelly type of hire, we have to also remember Gus Malzahn was coaching HS just about a decade ago...I trust Gundy has vetted this guy, and he has made really good decisions so far.

In addition to that MG might have made this hire not only the next big OC, but I expect he is tired of losing OC's every two years, we might be able to hold it off for 5 years.

I think folks like Tra are overstating some of what we've had... NFL pedigree at WR coach?  No sure how that translates.   D1 (AA).

Holgy, yes... not going back and looking up Fedora, et al

If you're trying to describe DH, that's not accurate.
