The Price We Pay for Being Led By Our Nose by
a compliant press in sports and politics spreading myths and falsehoods..............and we DO all pay a price....................wonder if the officials who made those terrible calls against us in the ND game were just smitten w/ Manti`s story................ Incidentally, the ND open Scout board has almost 500 posts in their major Manti thread. The Domers are in a deep state of embarrassment/denial/shock

Re: The Price We Pay for Being Led By Our Nose by
My conservatism ends at gay bashing. If Manti has a boyfriend then I say bully for him. Some of the best unions among my friends in the film biz are homosexual. It must be tough in the Pacific Islander community to come out (if that's the story).
He must be incredibly non-sophisticated however.
As for Hawaii... I'd rather be in Philadelphia.
And he lied about taking a mission.

Not just for gay Pacific Islanders...
gay Mormon Pacific Islanders
gay Mormon Pacific Islanders who go to a Catholic University
gay Mormon Pacific Islanders who play football at a Catholic University
IF that is what it was, I do feel bad for him. It's still pretty pathetic to create a girlfriend and then stage her death. But I can understand why he felt the need to stay in the closet.

TC, as per Our Discussion at the Rose Bowl
I share your views entirely on the issue of gay marriage et. al. and have family members who have been legally married as you know. That is entirely an aside for me. My concern is how easily legend and myth can be created and perpetuated by politicians and athletes with an agenda and how easily a compliant press will run with the ball to promote it`s own agenda when it suits itself.
My one question should Manti be revealed as a gay athlete is how it plays out on draft day...........................

If this whole thing is about Manti being gay . . .
. . . it would be quite a redemptive conclusion to the shtshw.
If he uses it to open doors and eyes to other gay athletes, it will make him a hero.
But I can feel the limb I'm on swaying in the wind, and if I go any further it's going to break.

Swarbrick's press conference/The Truman Show
suggested strongly that MT was/is a trusting kid, who simply got duped. seemed believable.
but, it led me to think: who wins here? and it struck me that a really creative bookie could have set the whole thing up, in order to get a betting advantage, as ND went further and further into the season unbeaten.
ESPN also quoted another Samoan NFL player, Reagan Mauia, who also had a 'relationship' with the same woman. he claims he met her in person. (MT's father also claimed they'd met the woman in person; reconciling that, with recent statements, is going to be fun.)
finally, Swarbrick stated that the woman called MT on Dec. 26, right during the lead-up to the NCG. either it was the bookie trying to get into MT's head and tilt the odds in his favor; or, the woman was, like the character played by Natasha McElhone in The Truman Show, tired of scamming the kid and tried to make things right.
the ESPN reporter from Chicago said, in effect, he's been in the business 30 years, and always expects the unexpected. but he's never seen anything like this. he was asked what he thought about ND's handling of the case. he responded and said if it were up to him, he'd have gotten out in front of the story; but, since it's never happened before, he wasn't going to fault the ND administration, since there's 'no manual' for how to deal with a situation like this.
I think MT's draft stock may have fallen, but I also think he's going to be a good pro and play for many years.

Seemed believable??! C'mon man. You honestly believe that a guy would 'date' a woman he'd never met for a year (or was it 3 yrs?) and never once video chat with her? Pretty much every laptop has a webcam. Most smart phones have some sort of face-time. Everyone I know in a long distance relationship skypes a few times a week, if not nightly. Brett Favre texted photos of his junk to a woman he'd only met a few times. This guy Manti was 'dating' a woman for over a year and they never sent each other text pics of any kind? Not to mention a weekend visit... Flights aren't that expensive. Not only that, Manti's father said this girl had been out to Hawaii to visit. Why would he say that if Manti was being duped by some nefarious 'bookie'? Sounds like he knew Manti was making this whole thing up for publicity and he was doing his part to maintain the lie. Maybe OJ can look for this evil bookie while he searches for Nicole's real killers. If you really believe Manti is a victim in this, I'd like to set you up with a girl friend of mine. She's really pretty, trust me. But you can never see her- only e-mails.

also, take a look at navy9t1's thoughts on CEB: Link. Yes I watched the press conference. I believe Swarbrick is the same guy who did nothing to investigate that girl's rape allegations against the ND football player (and the girl subsequently committed suicide). For some reason he didn't hire a private investigator to get to the bottom of her allegations and he also didn't hold a press conference where he cried about her death. Yet there he was weeping over poor Te'o & saying they hired a PI to investigate the hoax. It's apparent to me that Swarbrick will do anything to protect ND football, to include sweeping a potential rape case under the rug and going on tv to weep over Te'o's lost ability to trust. Just checked out navy9t1's thoughts... very interesting. In related news, Blacks are gifted at worship, Whites are good at organization, Hispanics can fit 30 people into one home and Asians can turn a television into a watch. Is navy9t1 really Reggie White?
