Re: Screw Marketing, just win

B - Yeah, that is fine when we can get multiple McDonald's All-Americans who can gain admission as we can in Women's Hoops, but in Football and Men's Hoops, we can always have that luxury.

I do think what I am getting at with this 'surge" is maniacal "fan-building" as opposed to "marketing". Using the term "marketing" is probably not going to resonate the way I want it to.

I have a big problem with the winning cures all philosophy because we can't risk betting on winning to get ourselves out of this jam. First, winning won't solve our problems on itrs own and second, there is no assurance that we will win in the next couple of years. I am hoping and praying that we do, but you can't bank on it and sit around watching the fanbase expire.

You can start by removing the 2006 schedule posters at SFO

Last time I parked in the hourly garage at SFO, they still had the Trent Edwards 2006 posters near the elevators.

And, as for the autographed El Camino light post banners being auctioned off at gostanford.com .....this is not a joke? Where is the lucky winner supposed to display the banner -- on the light post on their street? In the lobby at work? Did the Ath Dept at least clean off the birds*** before JH signed?

Agree with Emeritus - we can't count on instant winning. But, at least make it entertaining and people will come. Exhibit A: Golden State Warriors. A pathetic franchise with a sorry record for 35 years. Yet Oracle is nearly sold out for every home game. B/c the team scores lots of points in runaway style.

2008 was a gigantic improvement over BT and Harris era. Still, 50,000 likely won't show up to watch Gerhart and his 6 ypc. They might if Luck is the next Elway.
