Those of us who fondly remember Chief Lightfoot and the Indian mascot will soon be dust. I would think this issue will disappear in the not too distant future.

My personal preference would be a compromise. Bring back the Indian mascot in the form of Chief Lightfoot and do away with our bulb nose friend. I'm afraid such a compromise would just leave both sides of the debate unhappy.

The legacy we're living with is the refusal of a prior administration to allow a vote on whether to retain the Indian mascot.  Academic administrators are often times such hypocrites, especially when it comes to decisions concerned with political correctness.
