Hochstatter's body language in the first inning was horrendous. You could just feel a disaster about to happen.

Sure hope he gets it together in the 2nd.

Crushing day for Hawk

Maybe the wear of this past week played a role or it just wasn't his day. It doesn't change how critical he was this season, but to lose control so completely in such an important game has to hurt. I feel for him. It's not over, though. Quantrill can rally us tomorrow.

Here we go again. Walk, walk, walk, wild pitch. The entire staff is becoming infected.

Is anyone watching this game on TV?  Was Hochstatter really that wild or was the ump squeezing the zone (like they did in Indiana)?

Re: Friday's game

Very wild.  Curve didn't break, fastball all over.  Not the ump at all in fact we have gotten a couple of iffy calls.
Thank ya, thank ya kindly

Re: disaster for Hochstatter...

Frank,

This was the first time that I have seen him pitch.  He is not very good, and I am surprised that Marquess used him first in the rotation seeing that the first game of a 3 game set is so important. Besides looking like a mental case out there, the kid doesn't have much stuff, but worse he has no balance or rhythm in his motion and then he tries to place the ball. His pitching mechanics are really poor - that combined with not much of an arm leads to the result that I saw today.  I turned the game off because we looked so terrible.
But MM is to blame - should not have started this kid and should have pulled him much, much earlier when it was evident that he couldn't find the plate. I couldn't believe that he also almost threw away the come backer.

Fighting our way back

10-6 now. We finally chased Beede out of the game. Hanewich throwing strikes. Can we pull another miracle out of our hat? And even if we do, will we have any arms left for the rest of the series?

Just missed a double and being down 10-9. Bummer. Oh well, keep chiping away. 4 more innings of at bats left.

I've been waiting 6 years to say this. We just pulled off the Deke play. :)

Over pitching Quantrill should not and was not an option. Hockstatter got us here with 10 wins. So it was one or the other. 9 was 100% correct with the starter.
Thank ya, thank ya kindly

Even I, the first and the loudest in any criticism of umpiring and refereeing, would not put the walks on the umpire.  [I would be willing to complain about a couple of called third strikes against our guys later in the game, but that is nit picking, as the umpiring did not lose us this game.]
