I have to say, Cal did a great job with UK this year

I have to say, Cal did a great job with UK this year

They really did play team basketball. The willingness to make the extra pass was obvious and there were 3 frosh and 2 sophs starting. Credit Cal for ingraining this in his charges. And for playing tough D. Needless to say, I have no respect for Cal's attitude toward academics and toward "one-and-done." Academics doesn't mean a bloody thing to him.

I was impressed with Antonio Davis off the court. Too bad a kid with so much academic upside and future potential in the real world leaves without a degree.

C'mon tc you know a "degree" is just window dressing: you went to SF State!

Kidding aside, I'd take the benjamins any day. Cal's reference to Bill Gates isn't as ridiculous as some say it is. Everyone should take advantage of the talent God gave them. Davis' smarts won't disappear, but his hops will. If the degree never gets signed, at least he'll have 4 Escalades to sell off for profit.

Even Rick Santorum made fun of Obama's belief that everyone should have a college degree, and he knows his creationism. If it ain't proved, don't prove it.

Yeah but  he might end up like Warren Sapp or Mark Brunell and owe 25 million.

Or if he stayed in school, still got his 200 million and maybe became a senator.

We need more public servants and fewer politicians. Something about this kid. I'm for more Bill Bradleys even if they are from the Democrat Party.

But... I'm just sayin...

The debt the pro athletes get into is because of stupidity that will not necessarily be un-learned in college.

I agree that the "best thing" for most kids, and for society in general, would be for kids not to come out early. Coming out early certainly shows a devaluing of the free education. The kids don't care.

But it's just an impossible argument economically.  In Bradley's day the pro money wasn't as obscene and the justifications to stay were easier to make.  Plus he was at Princeton and had eating clubs events to attend.

Sara Palin became a governor, and she went to about 50 community colleges and basically majored in beauty pageants. If politics is Davis post-sports goal, getting his degree at Kentucky isn't going to be the deal breaker.

My point is that most of these kids can't speak. Take JJ Arrington. Something other than English. Davis is one of the few who can put two sentences together. A shame to lose him to the boring, unwatchable NBA.

Well I still like the college game best, and that's saying something considering the awfulness I had to witness this season, including a painful Stanford vs. SC game.  It was so bad Brewst, RJ and I had to flee UCLA country to get sushi and beer after the game ended.

What's happened to the Japanese place on the East side of Westwood Blvd. just below Wilshire?
