You guys are going to get killed at Oregon

If you're letting this much offense occur whith Oregon State, you will be absolutely drowned by the Duck's offense.

That was going to happen no matter what we did against OSU. Oregon destroys everyone.

+1....   Next Saturday will not be fun to watch.

My big hope and concern is that we don't lose anyone to injury.   If we get through the game without losing anyone,  then it's on to UCLA...

I'll take my chances there...

Yep...just hoping Hogan continues to improve and we at least look respectable out there.

Good point, and nice win against Beavus.

What?

Stanford has the #1 rush defense in the country.  Stanford leads the country in sacks and tackles for loss.  Stanford is the #1 scoring defense in the Pac-12.

Stanford now has a legit QB that has breathed life into its whole offense, and in particular, its power running game.

Oregon State only gained 311 yards today, and 77 rushing.  But here's what to keep in mind.  Oregon State was the #5 rush defense going into today.  Stanford racked up 163 on the ground.  Oregon State's defense is way better than Oregon's.  And Stanford's is better than Oregon State's.

Oregon may very well beat Stanford, but Oregon is going to struggle to score like they have in other games this year, against Stanford.  And I don't think Oregon is going to be any more effective stopping Stanford than Oregon State was.

Did you think Texas A&M could beat Alabama today?

Re: You guys are going to get killed at Oregon

I like that you have faith in your team but it seems like every year we play you guys you come into the game as one of the best defenses in the conference but once the game starts our speed / tempo take over and we win by 2+TD's. I will say that your defense this year is the best one I have seen in awhile but on the flip side I think this might be our best offense ever so I have to give the edge to my Ducks (I'm sure you are shocked by my blind homerism).
College football is all about match ups and IMHO I think that over these past couple of years we have had an easier time of taking advantage of our mismatches against you than you have against us. Hopefully it continues.
Going to be an interesting game, especially with Gameday being there and having the prime time 5pm kickoff.

Was at both games today. Stanford is playing as well as every team but one nationally.

Oregon is in a class by itself. If they lose the NC it will be the biggest choke ever. EVER.

Oregon has not struggled to score in other games, so I said they will struggle to score (against Stanford) like they have in other games this year (against Stanford).

I don't see what is confusing about the statement.

Re: You guys are going to get killed at Oregon

Oregon is really depleted on defense.  Stanford has lots of depth on defense.

Oregon gives up 4+ YPC and Stanford gains over 4+ YPC.

Oregon gains 6 YPC and Stanford gives up 2 YPC.

By any measure, Stanford is superior in the trenches.  In my experience, any team that has a 2+ YPC advantage in what it gains versus gives up running, will win the game.  Since both Oregon and Stanford have a 2+ YPC edge, it should be quite a competitive game.

Re: You guys are going to get killed at Oregon

Stanford fared poorly against AZ's spread.

Oregon being depleted on the Dline is immaterial:  Aliotti will throw whoever out there, and it doesn't matter.  He has his DBs pushing the envelope on coverage, knowing that, even if the refs make a call, they'll get it back the next play on D, or their offense will pick up slack.  Look what happened OR v USC.  Barkley made two mistakes, and that was the margin.  Get in a track meet with OR, and you have to be perfect.

Which is what Stanford did three years ago, Luck's only win against them.  Oregon is something like 35-1 when they score more than 40; Stanford is the '1', in 2009.  51-42.  Compared to that game:  our D is better, but O poorer; Oregon's O and D are both better.

Maybe we will be perfect, but it's a lot to ask of an offense with a QB in his 2nd start/3rd game, and a still-young Oline which is not pounding the ball the way we did with Gerhart in 2009 -- taking nothing away from Stepfan, who has gotten more out of less blocking-wise than Toby did, by quite a stretch.

Stanford's depth on D doesn't matter if they can't get personnel on/off the field.  I'm sure Mason will study what Cal did for 2.5 quarters.  Depth helps in that situation, but so does not having a rookie QB throwing a pick at a crucial moment.  Hmm... (I'm thinking about Kevin Hogan, because Mariota is clearly *not* a rookie QB.)

Maybe Reynolds will spy on Huff and make up for the two dropped picks against OSU.  Who knows.

IMO, if Oregon doesn't win the NCG, then this is a failed season.

So you're saying they will score at will against Stanford like they've scored at will against everyone else?

College football?  Oregon plays a different game, one that I am not familiar with.

If we manage to get them to play football, we have a chance.  But if it's the kind of Nike-infused FutureSport DuckNam Style that has led them to their whatever-and-0 record, well I hope we at least keep it close in the 1st quarter.

Do you mean "like other teams" have struggled to score against Stanford? Oregon hasn't played Stanford this year...I don't know what you mean.

Maybe this will clear it up: how many points do you expect Oregon to score this Saturday?

Re: What?

The last two years Stanford has had a great defense...and they gave up 105 points to the Ducks. Your players do not match up well with the Ducks. Your lineman and LBS are physical, but always wear down and quit getting a push as the tempo wears on them. And once you quit stopping plays before they start the flood gates open for the running game. And then you sell out to stop that and we gash you with play action pass.

Stanford is built to stop teams like Oregon State, USC, Cal, etc. But they struggle against spread teams.

Let me put it this way. Oregons offense may indeed be the best in the history of college football. You say you expect us to struggle against your defense, but a defense like yours is one we feed on. Big, physical...but not fast or athletic enough.

Look I think you guys are the second best team in the conference. But you didnt match up well with the Ducks when you had Andrew Luck. This year you don't have A.L... And our offense and defense is better.

And four of the five D Lineman that were out against Cal will return Saturday.

Re: What?

Outsider Fan is, well, an outsider fan.  A Cal fan, IIRC.

No Stanford fan I know thinks we have much of a shot.  'Playing with house money' is a common phrase.  As you say, when we beat you three years ago, it was the only time in 35 +/- tries that Oregon has lost when scoring at least 40 pts.  And Oregon's O and D this year are both superior to the 2009 team, while Stanford's O is not as good.  That Stanford's D is outstanding this year is pretty much irrelevant.  We will need to get some breaks, namely TOs.  If Reynolds makes two picks, the game may be close, sort of like Oregon vs USC was 'close'.  But, if I were running Monte Carlo simulations, 9 times out of 10 Stanford would lose by at least 30, and maybe 2% of the time we might win.

PS:  If Oregon does not win the NCG this year, it should be ashamed of itself.  You don't clobber team after team, many of whom are quality teams, without having an absolute expectation for success all the way to #1 at the end of the year.

Re: You guys are going to get killed at Oregon

I do not expect an easy game.  I am worried that we are going to have to outscore Stanford to win, due to our injuries on the d-line.

Our starting 2-deep at the beginning of the season:
DE: Dion Jordan/Tony Washington
DT: Isaac Remington/Jared Ebert
NT: Wade Keliikipi/Ricky Heimuli
DE: Taylor Hart/Arik Armstead

Jordan, Remington, Ebert, Keliikipi, Heimuli and Hart are all injured and missed the Cal game (Hart got injured in 1st quarter) . . .

Re: You guys are going to get killed at Oregon

I think as you can see most the Stanford fans here have a well earned respect for Oregon's talent and recognize we are the underdogs and it is a huge challenge to try to win there.  But do some of the Oregon fans have to be some damned arrogant? I think you need to have an NC under your belt in the last few years to justify all that, and the Ducks have managed to choke every year on the way to that.
