All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (1 vote)
In the coming weeks of what may be a difficult rebuilding season for Northwestern, PurpleWildcats.com will be making a list of the 10 best players in school history.
For this, we'd love to hear feedback, reflect on the glory days, and take suggestions.
Shurna? Jitim? Eschmeyer? McKinney? It's your call.
Look forward to the discussion

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (2 votes)
I'd argue that John Shurna is the best Northwestern player ever. He helped win more games than anyone else has and is the leading all time scorer. My list of greats also includes Billy McKinney, Juice Thompson, Jitim Young, Evan Eschmeyer, Craig Moore and Shon Morris.

I'm not too far off from this list......I really hope Drew Crawford is in consideration when his career is over.

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (1 vote)
I've been following the team since 1993. Here would be my ten since then (loosely in order):
Eschmeyer Shurna Juice Kevin Rankin Patrick Baldwin Jitim Young Vedran Craig Moore Cedric Neloms Coble (I was struggling to get to ten)
Geno Carlisle would have made it if he stayed at NU.

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (1 vote)
Since you said "10 best in History" I think we have to consider some very good players from past era. Look up stats and you will see many of these guys hold NU records. Don Adams played ABA/NBA pro for 11 years
Billy McKinney Joe Ruklick Rich Falk Don Adams Dale Kelly Frank Shon Morris

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (3 votes)
When choosing an all-time team I like to go off a few things. First what separates a player from every other player in school history. Their impact on the team during their years at Northwestern. Wins is definitely important, but how the player changed the outlook of how a program is viewed. If I made a first and second team it would be this.
First Team ALL- NU: 1. Juice 2. Jitim Young 3. Billy McKinney 4. John Shurna 5. Evan Eschmeyer
Second Team: 1. Pat Baldwin 2. Vedran Vukusic 3. Kevin Rankin 4. Tavaras Hardy 5. Jim Stack
As far as the best player of all time when it comes to wins and points SHURNA. The Best PG Ever JUICE The Best Big Man and arguably the most dominate player in NU History ESCHMEYER The toughest player and biggest heart Northwestern has ever seen JITIM YOUNG #25

RE: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (1 vote)
From the 1970 season and on, I agree this is as good a team as any:
First Team ALL- NU: 1. Juice 2. Jitim Young 3. Billy McKinney 4. John Shurna 5. Evan Eschmeyer

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team
Nice voting for yourself Jitim :-)
I'd agree my all-time team would be:
G Juice G McKinney C Eschmeyer F Shurna F Jitim
Bring Tavaras Hardy, Craig Moore and Kevin Coble off the bench and you have a decent rotation. Otto Graham and Joe Rucklick are definitely in the group with them too (tough to judge some of the earlier eras... I actually met Rucklick while I was at school, he has some great stories).
And, of course, if we are going by hair Tim Doyle wins running away. That is the category that is most important.

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (1 vote)
Vedran has to make my list. When healthy he was absolutely dominant. I wasn't really a fan when McKinney or Eschmeyer were playing, but Vedran could score on anyone.
If I had to pick a top 5 from 2001 on it would be:
G Juice G Moore F Shurna F Vedran F Jitim
We really didn't have a center worthy of making the list in the last decade.

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team (2 votes)
Had to vote for myself. Its just being honest. If I didn't feel I was deserving of top 5, I would never give myself credit for something I'm not deserving of. When you look at the 5 players I picked, each player did something no other player in NU History has ever done.

Not putting Eshmeyer in your top 5 is like saying Kareem Abdul Jabaar is not one of the top 5 players ever in NBA history

Re: All-Time Northwestern Basketball Team
Forgot about Vedran. He and Mohammed Hachad were pretty decent players. Just never on very good teams. Vedran's shot against Iowa was a pretty big deal I remember when I made my visit to Northwestern as a senior.
